there is no list yet, you're the first to show interest. If you're interested in robotics, I'm a member of a new york robotics club, we haven't actually had a first meeting yet, but we're working on it :) send me a private message (http://www.instructables.com/member/leevonk/) with your email address and I'll add you to "the list".

One thing that comes to mind is the idiotarod, happening in late january:

It's like the Iditarod in Alaska but with a shopping cart and idiots instead of a sled and an eskimo.
I participated in it last year, I imagine we could make a pretty tricked out shopping cart. One team (cobra team pictured) had a flame throwing cart last year.
