Computer update......disassembled....

My computer has bit the dust (more than I expected when I opened it up), and the CMOS is completely fried...so I have disassembled it and am on the older yet, computer - another Gateway, single threaded CPU and the only port it recognizes on my DSL modem is the USB port......slowing it down EVEN FURTHER.   


Time to go into debt again for a new one.....*sigh*.   But this is why I haven't been around quite as much as I normally am.

$399 quad core AMD CPU, 8 gig ram, 750 gig HD ... I just have to hook 'er up and get everything installed ...

Do you have a freecycle group near you?
I have been a member of my local group for several years & have picked up a lot of good computer equipment including one PC complete with monitor speakers all the original disks etc. which was less than 18 months old.
You are unlikely to get a new state of the art machine but you may find something that would suit your needs for the time being or be able to get the parts to build something without spending a fortune.
Hope you get up & running soon whichever route you choose.

I am using a computer given to me by friends who just replaced this with another thinking this one had a virus or malware in it because it was very slow......um, no, it is very slow because it is a single threaded core CPU, 486 machine :-) But it functions until I get the new one up and running.
