Desktops of August

Hello all! This month would of been held by gmjhowe but he is very busy with moving into his new house right now so is unable to. Ahh, August is my favourite of the months seeing as MY BIRTHDAY is in it also school/ college is out and I've got a nice long relaxing summer to look forward to.

What are you all waiting for, Get printscreening and show off your desktop. Don't be shy!

To take a picture of your desktop on a windows machine use the printscreen key on your keyboard, Open up paint, Edit, Paste and then save this as a png. then upload this onto Instructables.

To take a screenshot on a mac use the apple key, Shift and 3. This will save the picture to your desktop then you can upload it to Instructables.

To take a screenshot in Linux go to Applications>Accessories>Take screenshot. If this doesn't work blame Lithium Rain ;-)

Right, for mine on my EeePC this month I'm using the Kupo-Finale Visual Style from lassekongo83.

For my wallpaper this month I had a nice change for me, A nice bit of Banksy. I love his work I have quite a collection of wallpapers from Banksy so I may alternate throughout the month.

The icon set is yet again is Dark Theme for IconTweaker which is a free program to change your icons. I may change the icon set next month ;)

What are you all waiting for, Get them on here and if you haven't changed it from last month change it NOW and post it up!

Peace out!

Wow, At first I thought you just took a picture of a sofa, then photoshopped it. Nice work!
Joe Martin (author) in reply to DJ RadioAug 5, 2009. 6:09 PM
I just wondered what the hell you were chatting about then I stared at the desktop and saw it!

:O

Grrr, That all I can see now lol!
Joe Martin (author) in reply to SunbanksAug 4, 2009. 12:24 AM
Good to see another person on here using something different from the norm Sunbanks! The only problem is I would maliciously arrange the icons then someone would come along and chuck them about everywhere! :)
Sunbanks in reply to Joe MartinAug 4, 2009. 3:46 PM
Hehe, thankfully I'm the only one that uses this computer :P My mom would flip out if I had installed bumptop before she got a new computer.

My computer desktop is still the blue mushrooms one from digital blasphemy (I don't change my desktops much) but my phone background is a certain crop of this picture which is a painting from the SF MoMA.

I'll let you off as you've changed for phone wallpaper, this time ;)
n8man in reply to Joe MartinAug 4, 2009. 2:17 PM
I actually do have something that I have changed... The background may not have changed on my computer but I have been using Stardock Fences which has been working well for me.
Skyfinity says: Aug 3, 2009. 4:06 PM
Lovin' the Banksy, Joe.

Unfortunatley, I use Real Desktop, and thus cannot have a desktop background.

Love some of the other ones here too!
n8man in reply to SkyfinityAug 4, 2009. 1:13 PM
I tried using that but it kept failing, hopefully Bumptop will work.
Sunbanks in reply to SkyfinityAug 3, 2009. 7:57 PM
I've never heard of Real Desktop until now, but it looks pretty cool. I think I'm going to have to try it today.
Skyfinity in reply to SunbanksAug 3, 2009. 8:27 PM
Well, I had been using it for a long time as a replacement for BumpTop, which I had seen on a TED conference video and really wanted. Unfortunatley it was still being developed. The free alternative was Real Desktop, which is great, but didn't have the added features that BumpTop did. Now, BumpTop is out and available for download, so, if you wan't, you can have that instead. I will make the switch and tell you what happens.
Sunbanks in reply to SkyfinityAug 3, 2009. 8:37 PM
Real Desktop is pretty fun :P I don't exactly like the design for the free version, since that blue just seems too default-y. Other than that I like it. I'll try BumpTop, thanks for the link!
Skyfinity in reply to SkyfinityAug 3, 2009. 8:31 PM
BTW: I'm only using free download version, both of which I felt sufficed.
Here is the original TED video: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/anand_agarawala_demos_his_bumptop_desktop.html
Joe Martin (author) in reply to SkyfinityAug 3, 2009. 4:14 PM
Cheers Sky, That's the one where you can chuck the icons about everywhere isn't it? I must try it sometime!

ll.13 in reply to Joe MartinAug 4, 2009. 9:06 AM
no, they're just folders with no icons ;)

Same rotation of images I've been using, but I added this one to the list.

Taken by yours truly, poking the camera out the window of a KC-135.

Wow, What where you doing on a KC-135 if you don't mind me asking?

=D
CameronSS in reply to Joe MartinAug 4, 2009. 8:08 AM
Being awesome, of course. One of the parents in my flying club is the chief pilot on one, and he arranged for us to be in one. I also have some shots of an A-10 hooked on, taken from the boom operator's position, but they aren't nearly as epic.
Joe Martin (author) in reply to CameronSSAug 4, 2009. 8:17 AM
...EPIC WIN
Skyfinity says: Aug 3, 2009. 10:03 PM
Here is my Desktop using BumpTop. The image is cover art from a meaningful album, and the blue walls came default with the software. There are multiple downloadable "themes" available, that range from Mario to the Matrix. Each wall is customizable with any image. The little geyser photo on the wall is on a frame that continuously cycles through My Pictures. There is also a Flickr frame, which I haven't updated, and a Facebook and Twitter icon. Both can send pictures and update statuses without bringing up the site. The little printer will print when icons are dragged to it. You can also see a sticky not I wrote to remind me of the next contest here.

Ahh, I like it. It looks a very dynamic why of using the computer, A room rather than one wall! Thanks for the link, I WILL have to try it!
