Did not get my price, super disappointing.

A while back I won a first price on the Automation contest. It consisted of a pack of Tessel boards and I was excited to test them out. The price was sent by FedEx to my location in Costa Rica. When it arrived at FedEx they contacted me because the invoice needed to be more specified for the customs. They can be quite picky in this country. I contacted Instructables/ Autodesk believing this should be an easy thing to fix. The lady at FedEx Costa Rica had some questions and needed a new more detailed invoice. That was all. Small thing I thought. Well, it turned out that Autodesk was not at all interested in helping. I had to write many emails and messages before I even got a reply back and then they where super slow to respond, finally they did a small effort to send a new invoice but it was not as specified as the lady at FedEx needed it to be and now they do not even reply to my emails at all. So be aware contest winners, if there is an issue with customs, Instructables/ Autodesk will hardly lift a finger to help. I find it weird that my price will end up in the garbage bin of FedEx just because they are not interested in helping. Extremely disappointing! I thought Instructables/ Autodesk valued their makers more.

Thanks Elektron8 for your note. Please be assured that we want you to get your prize. You haven't heard from us in the last few days because we are busy trying to figure out exactly what the Costa Rican customs officials need from us. I'm still hopeful that we will be able to get this resolved for you soon. I will contact you through pm when we have more info.

I am sorry but I have a hard time believing you after 4 weeks of emailing back and forth and seeing almost no effort from your side to solve this. Please prove me wrong.

We are doing everything we can to get customs the information they need to deliver your prize to you.

Part of the problem may be the fact that you are in Costa Rica - technically, unless the list of eligible countries has been updated without an announcement, you should not have been able to win the prize at all!

Sorry but this comment does not make sense to me. I won and they do not want to help with specifying the invoice, that is the whole problem. I am not the problem, where I live is not the problem. If they do not allow people in Costa Rica to win, I should not have been able to apply in the first place. A simple effort from Autodesk would have solved this in a few emails.

This is an excerpt from the automation contest rules.

"Eligibility. THE CONTEST IS OPEN ONLY TO NATURAL PERSONS WHO, AT THE TIME OF ENTRY, ARE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF THE SITE, WHO ARE AT LEAST THIRTEEN (13) YEARS OLD (FIFTEEN [15] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF NORWAY AND EIGHTEEN [18] YEARS OLD FOR RESIDENTS OF GERMANY), AND ARE LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES (INCLUDING THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BUT EXCLUDING PUERTO RICO), CANADA (EXCLUDING THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC, CANADA), UNITED KINGDOM, AUSTRALIA, BELGIUM, CHINA, THE NETHERLANDS, COLOMBIA, DENMARK, GERMANY, INDIA, NORWAY, NEW ZEALAND OR SWITZERLAND. OK, so if it was not open for us in Costa Rica, why did I won and why did they send it to me in the first place?

The following is an excerpt from the contest FAQ forum post.

"Can I enter if my country is not listed in the official rules?

Yes! You can definitely enter.

However, you must have a mailing address in an eligible country to win. If you have a friend in the US or another eligible country that can receive your prize, go ahead and enter!

You can read more about our progress to add more countries to the eligible shipping locations here. It's not been going very well for a while, but I hope to share some good news with you guys in late 2014!

I live in -----, why can't I enter?!

Chances are your country has incredibly strict laws regarding gambling, sweepstakes and contests. We try our best to play by the rules, and if we can't meet the minimum requirements to run a contest in your country, we don't run them there!

That's the easy answer. The hard answer is that it's very complicated and involves lots of risk and scary legal kanguage."

When you win a contest, they ask for your address to ship the prize. You are supposed to be prepared to provide an address within one of the eligible countries or not enter. It seems to me that the staff are being quite generous considering you were not technically eligible.

I'm guessing there was a geography fail, and somebody thought that Costa Rica was in Puerto Rico...

Yes, but Puerto Rico wasn't eligible either.
