Do you REALLY have "too much time on your hands" ?

I've noticed a trend in blogs and comments and other references to Instructables. Very often, the writer says something along the lines of, Whoever thought of that has way too much time on their hands.

Now, as someone who makes things, and often posts Instructables about them, I personally don't feel I have *enough* time to do all the things I want. On the other hand, I have seen a number of Instructables that start out, "I was bored so I ...".

What about you? Do you have too much time and fill it with making up weird stuff, or do you have ideas for weird stuff and not enough time to make it all? Or what?

I never have much time left over from work, and caring for my wife and Mom. I have loads of ideas, because I don't have to stop "doing what I must" in order to think about things. But hunkering down and actually doing them, is another matter altogether.

I think it's more a matter of wanting to create something with my free time instead of receive something . . . like a half-baked television program. I'd rather bash something up.

I vary - right now, I have too little time for the projects I want to do, because it's term time. On the other hand, out of term time, I need something to keep me out of trouble, and there's always those 4am ideas to deal with...

I really don't have enough time for anything. Full time work + full time school = suck. On my rare free days I don't want to do anything but sleep, honestly. :P

And yet I still receive comments like that - especially about the Barbie doll project. If only those people knew I have about five other projects in mind that I haven't even started!

I have read that written about my projects on occasion. I wish i had more time on my hands. I work a 40 hour a week job, used to DJ at least one weekend night a week, just bought a bike shop, and do web design work on the side also. Oh, and i'm a social creature too, travel quite a bit, am active on three different boards for non-profits and try to find time for the pile of projects stacked up in my mind. I do not, however have the time to post degrading comments on digg about every big thread.
Time? Nope, don't know what that is...

The comment always aggravates me, too. Using your time to do _anything_ creative is usually better than the popular alternatives: watching TV or numbing your brain with chemicals. Creativity enriches our lives. "According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV each day (or 28 hours/week, or 2 months of nonstop TV-watching per year). In a 65-year life, that person will have spent 9 years glued to the tube."

I definitely do not have enough time.. If have way to many ideas for the amount of spare time I get. Rarer still is having enough time to document it for instructables.. but I try my best.. Unfortunately (for me) Instructables is more tempting and enjoyable than school work..

I had so much time I read all these comments, stared at my computer screen, thought of the, wrote it and got bored again.

Whoever wrote that is very ignorant. Just like his hobby, or job is writing things, our hobbies and jobs (Squid labs) are making sweet projects. -Brennn10
