Electronic Swap Program -- Intrest Poll
Muff and I are in t3h (hehe) process of trading a few parts, he sent me some stuff I needed, I'm going to send him some stuff that he'll need.
Anyway, it brought up an idea: An Electronic Swap Program!
It'd work where you'd send stuff that you have tons of to someone, and they'd send you stuff they have.
This is really a great way to get stuff you need -- and the parts end up being cheaper, since you try to send parts that you have in bulk. (Its cheaper to buy in 1K quanities than 1)
I'm just trying to see if theres interest. The plan, ATM, would be something like this:
Send parts and $2** to me
I use $2** to send you a mix of what people, and myself, have donated.
You get parts and are happy. (happy or die!)
**Outside of USA: I'd probably have you guys go online to our postal service's site, and buy the postage for me, and send it to me to print out. Or just send me more monies.
(You end up paying postage both ways)
$2 is just a guess on how much it'd cost. Muff's package to me cost $1.14 -- so $2 seems about right.
If you're interested, or have a suggestion, lemme know!

Yeah -- I'd probably setup some form of currency -- 10 LEDs = 1 555 timer, etc. (Maybe the base should be LEDs?)
I could also just look up the prices, and then do it from that... although that could get complicated...
Also, I'd really like it to *only* stay here at 'ibles -- for dah-dah reasons :P
If someone had 100 555 timers, they could probably buy everything too ;-)
Are 4017b's kind of like shift registers?
. The biggest problem I can see is maintaining some degree of anonymity. I'm not that worried about giving out my address, but a lot of other ppl are. What guarantees would they have that your site wouldn't get hacked and the address list stolen?
Oh -- I definantly wouldn't handle that on my site -- where did this "site" appear from? :P
I'd probably handle the addresses through the PM system - an external site, if used, would only be for inventory -- probably even hard coded.
There would, however, be a central hub -- although this doesn't have a point when there's only 2 traders, it gets better as more join in. If Muff donates 100 LEDs, I donate 1,000 Resistors, and you donate 10 ATMega8's -- Each person would get:
(Ignore the fact that some people got better deals, assume all these trades are worth it)
That is just a better trade than just me and Muff, or Muff and you.
On a personal note, I've exchanged stuff with fellow forum member (on another forum.) Although it wasn't setup strictly as a trade, I sent off an unneeded PSoC experimenters board (my original cost $0) to someone, who returned the favor by sending an unwanted Digi portserver (his cost $0, retail ~$380.)
One messy wrinkle: quite a few participants here are minors, and I'm sure their parents would be uncomfortable with the prospect.
Its $48-$10 for 6 months for the smallest one, depending on "Zone" -- if I'd have to go up into the $48 range -- maybe the "fee" could be bumped up to $4-$5 ($48 for six months = $7 for 1 month, so I'd need 3.5 $4 trades, or 2.3 $5 trades to equal it out -- something easily manageable)
I think the best would be $4 -- because shipping my stuff *there* will cost me a few bucks. I'd be willing to part with $6 and soem random parts I've collected to get $10-$15 of stuff that I need.
(My Address would be semi-public, anyone wanting to trade would get it -- unless theres a PO box)
I'm a Python and Javascript guy, for the record :P (I know Java, but I'm not awesome :P)
Yeah -- I was thinking of just starting a little inventory site -- nothing huge, just a way to keep track, and order, and stuff -- while staying tied in to ibles.
