First U.S City To Be Lit With 100% LEDs

"Ann Arbor is on its way to being the first U.S. city to light up its downtown with 100% LED-based streetlights. The city expects to install more than 1,000 LED streetlights beginning next month. The city anticipates a 3.8-year payback on its initial investment."

Kudos to you, Ann Arbor!

LEDs are showing up in more and more lighting applications, for some good info on LED light bulbs, is a must to visit. They also have some pretty good prices.

My dad was born in Ann Arbor. Cool article W-burg!
So was my Mom!
hmmmm.... vancouver should do that, were putting 14 billion into public transit (to improve the environment and because were getting olympics in 2010) i think getting LEDs everywhere would bring some publicity too.

Hmm. I didn't think that LEDs were in the "twice as efficient" range from typical high-efficiency streelight technology (mercury vapor or sodium.) Wikipedia says "up to 150lm/W for LED prototypes" and 150-200lm/W for sodium lamps, for instance. (although the photos show rather "decorative" style streetlamps that were perhaps were using regular incandescents...)

Yeah, the article is misleading. Some city officials probably wanted to appear "green" and justify the spending. They do have a better color rendition and a faster startup, but there's no advantage justifying the actual price gap, certainly not efficiency.
Some city officials probably wanted to appear "green" because of the big fat grant and the media buzz.

He would certainly have a good chance, but it would depend on the quality of his instructable, and what kind of projects other people submit.
quality... you mean how detailed it is?
