Frequency of Laser Tag guns

Does anyone know if Laser tag guns use infared LED's emitting at a certain frequency, If so what frequency/range of frequency

I think it's just standard IR, not sure if it's modulated or not. Just test it by pointing an IR LED at one of the sensors andsee if it activates.

If it's modulated would it just be pulsing?
. It is probably modulated so the receiver can ignore ambient IR. . If it is modulated, it is probably pulsed - much simpler than AM.

What could I use to pick up the frequency of the pulsing IR light?
. Not sure. Maybe clip a 'scope or freq meter to the output of the transmitter (input of LED)?

Could I use a ir reciving diode and hook it up to a recorder of some sore then process the signal by computer e.g acid xpress
. I dunno. Maybe one of the ppl with more experience can help you out. Sounds like it should be possible, but a rather Goldbergian way of doing it.
