Global Warming Confusion

NOAA released this a couple of days ago. Global Warming effect on Hurricanes. This is not what Al Gore told us. What gives?

Just a general comment, but has anyone read M Crichtons 'Fear'? Thoughts?

No, but I've read others (Jurassic Park (s), Airframe, and the time travel one (Timeline?)). He does tend to grab the general idea of a science, then the details suffer in favour of the plotline. For instance, in Timeline the travel into the past was supposed to be into a parallel dimension, not our own past, thus getting around the Grandfather Paradox, yet the people who died in the past left traces that were found in our own universe.

Key phrase:

could mean fewer Atlantic hurricanes striking the United States

Could = we don't know yet. More data is needed.

Striking the United States = we are part of the US Department of Commerce - if it hits any other country, it won't cost us money.

In terms of hurricane strength, Wang notes, â€The vertical wind shear is not the only factor affecting Atlantic hurricane activity, although it is an important one.†Other factors include atmospheric humidity, sea level pressure, and sea surface temperature.

What the article fails to point out is that the other three main factors are all increased by GW.

And

Just because the number of hurricanes hitting the US may not increase dramatically, that does not mean that GW isn't wrecking the atmosphere. Since we're talking US-centric, how about this little graph?

GW is putting massive amounts of extra energy into the atmosphere and hydrosphere - something energetic is going to happen.

Reading Tim Flannery's, "we are the weather makers". I'm still contemplating the perspective of the sky as an aerial ocean, with currents, heat exchanges, multitudes of layers and it's connection to the globe as a whole... Definatley worth a read.. His previous version is also well written.
