how can you make an unpublished instructable private?????

Open your instructable in "edit mode". When you're ready to publish it, click on the "More" option (found to the right of the "edit", "publish" and "share" tabs). You'll see a list of options that open under "More". Select "Private" from the list, and the page will proceed to the publishing step as a Private Instructable. It indicates that you will receive a "special URL" for sharing it (if you choose to). At this point, all you need to do is click the orange "Make my Instructable private!" button.

Second thought: would the coding be easier if "private to members within this group" was the way it worked? L

Hi, I tested this and found out. However, for no particular reason I had the expectation that one might be able to list other users as having "permission" like on network drives. It would get tedious for a lot of users, but for a handful might be a bit more useful if the code would allow (do not know) L

I know it's different, but the URL part. I thought private just gave you a special URL to give out to friends.

My understanding of the Private function is that it's somehow more secure / private. But I've never been inclined to try it, yet. L

As I understand it, private ibles don't show up on searches, or when you look at an individual's orangeboard. It is possible to search an individual's unpublished projects by manually editing the url, but the same trick cannot access private ibles.

Can you find my unpublished projects? (and how?) L

Eric showed me how some time ago (naturally, I can't find it now), and I wouldn't spread it around if I could remember it anyway. It involved editing the url.
