How to report rude/ biggoted comments

Someone commented that my kids costume was the most "ghetto" they have ever seen. This is a rude and biggoted comment that should not be tolerated at this site. Please take steps to clarify with this individual what is acceptable and not acceptable commentary. I have attached the pics they commented on. Thanks, rhernand64

Every comment have a little link in the lower-right corner named "flag" where you can report comments you find inappropriate.

There is nothing wrong with "ghetto" as an adjective. It's not "racist" or in any way "offensive".

I do not, however, see anything "ghetto" about these costumes. You all did a great job with them.

Lighten up.

I have moved on, just wanted to remind people to try and be careful how we use words. Thanks for your comment.

I have seen the word "ghetto" a few
times and for the most part I don't believe that it has been used with
intention to offend but we must remember the original meaning of the
word:

"A ghetto is a part of a city in which
members of a minority group live, especially because of
social, legal, or economic pressure. The term was originally
used in Venice to describe the part of the city to which Jews were
restricted and segregated." (Wikipedia)

In a racially divided
country like our US, it can also be used to designate areas where ethnic
minorities live. I understand why someone could be offended by it.

Thank you for understanding and your perfect explanation/definition.:)

As I read it, the comment was neither rude nor bigoted, but complimentary.

From the Urban Dictionary:

ghetto (adj.) jury-rigged, improvised, or home-made (usually with extremely cheap or
sub-standard components), yet still deserving of an odd sense of respect
from ghetto dwellers and non-ghetto dwellers alike.

My thanks goes out to Sam/Seamster for his detailed and sensitive response. Although I am a big boy and will ignore the rude comments, I will flag when appropriate.
Sam's response:

My name is Sam and I work for instructables.

I saw your forum topic on the rude comment. I agree that it was a rude comment, even if the writer of it intended it to be funny or complimentary, or whatever. I figure it was just a kid being a punk.

In each comment box there is a little link that says "flag." If you select that and then click one of the options, the comment will disappear and get send to staff for review and possible followup with the author.

Sometimes really nasty folks turn up and start saying some of the worst things imaginable. We try to shut those types down as fast as possible, so help from community members by flagging this type of stuff really helps!

I removed that comment, and if you ever come across comments from people not following the "be nice" policy, just flag the comment and move on.

We really do have a fun and welcoming community, but it takes everyone helping out to keep it that way. Glad you're on the site! Keep up the good work!

Without your original comment, it is hard to decide whether the reply is appropriate or not. The phrase, and variations on it, is a common meme.

I posted: I can totally see it, you put the spoon in and the heat from the pudding expands it just a little bit and you can't get it back out, that would be a great prank.

Or you could get a large spoon and when you pulled the spoon out the narrowness of the mouth (on the jar) would wipe all the cargo off!

Very well done - I really like the photography.

Oh, your hyperlink didn't work **again**
