How to uninstall Steam

I really need to uninstall Steam because it is taking up a lot of space on my computer. I was originally going to use it to play Garry's Mod, but then never used it, and now it is just stuck taking up space... so here is the problem....i went to add or remove programs, but when i tried to remove it it did not work.... any suggestions???

1. Exit Steam

2. Navigate to your Steam installation directory (by default, C:\Program Files\Steam or C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam)
  • If you wish to keep your saved games and downloaded multiplayer content for a future installation of Steam, move your \steamapps\ folder to your desktop
3. Delete the contents of the Steam installation directory

4. Go to Start, select Run, and enter regedit

5. In the left-hand column of your registry editor, navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\

6. Right-click on the Steam subdirectory and select Delete

7. In the left-hand column of your registry editor, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam

8. Right-click on the Steam subdirectory and select Delete

---work for me! :D-----

Did all of this and it did not find any trace of Steam or Valve.

But when I then tried to install Rage it says that Steam already exists please remove etc etc?

Try ccleaner

I did but it made no difference. I contacted the support desk, but they have not responded any other ideas apart from wiping the disk clean and starting again

You know how you downloaded steam right? Well, download the installer, then when you run it it will give you the option to remove it. Check it, next, then be patient. Hope this would help!

Yh i need to uninstall it so I can install it to another drive Is there anyway of doing that , could I just copy the whole of steam onto my other drvie Or wont that work>>????
You can't uninstall Steam. It's sort of like AOL. You might think it's gone, but really, it's there, in the Applications folder, lurking in the darkness waiting to strike. :)
Hmm, Symantec stuff is like that too. On an old machine, when Norton firewall started to fail, I was still removing Sym stuff a year later....then we bought a new machine....

A quick look on Google shows me you are not alone.....This was the only consistent thing I could find....To completely uninstall Steam using Add Remove Programs, then completely delete the \STEAM\ folder and its sub-directories

thanks it is like it is just eating my computer....AAAAAAAAA LOL
Well games are large programs, I have Wolfenstein E.T. which main install is around 300Mb. with all the server mods, maps &c.. 1Gb.. =)

.....or you could just get another HDD around 20 or so Gb ;-)
Weird.

Last time when I uninstalled it, I just went to add/remove programs.

Worked fine for me.

Wait up...

*does some math*

That's when I got the virus!!!
Just kidding.
But I'm pretty sure that worked for me.
