I built a Super (ly fast) Computer, we named it HAL.

I am glad to announce, we have built a super computer. I'm serious, 8gb DDR2 ram, AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core,500gb SATA hard drive, Dual ATI Radeon 4670 DDR3 512mb Graphics cards, Asus M3N78-VM AM2+ Motherboard. It's so fast, if i was chatting on yahoo, i can see what you are typing before you type it. If ANYONE takes this picture, i will know because the chances of someone with this same set up is pretty slim. Or at least give me credit and let me know.

I spot 2 different motherboards. How do you do Crossfire with the two 4670's if neither have 2 PCIe X16 slots, or are you using a different motherboard?

1 is built in, 1 is PCI express.

 There is no such thing as a motherboard with an integrated  4670, and your motherboard has an integrated nVidia Geforce 8200...  
With that motherboard I believe you could do hybrid SLI, if you had an nvidia card, but you can't SLI or Crossfire a HD 4670 and a GeForce 8200.

Ya, never heard of bloatware? Software and stuff that you don't need or want? Not to mention Gateway changes a bunch of the OS's stuff, like a different control panel in XP. . . Either get a different manufacturer's computer or reformat to get rid of that icky memory-hogging bloatware.

My PC came stock with Vista Home Edition. But, I almost right away installed Vista Ultimate on my main partition, and Ubuntu on the second. So I never really "witnessed" the bloatware...

That's EXACTLY what you want to do. Bye-bye, bloatware, hello faster OS. . . Ubuntu pwns too; it runs WAY faster than Vista. I've only got 1GB of RAM, and Vista's just a big memory hog. Sorry if you like Vista, but I had plenty of issues with the original (before SP1) and it certainly has made a first impression on me. Fortunately, as far as Build 7000 (beta) and Build 7100 (RC) of Windows 7 go, speed has been vastly improved. You'll definitely want to buy it if you like Vista's interface and XP's speed.

Vista Ultimate runs faster than Ubuntu, with my 9GB of RAM. But, I am looking forward to Windows 7.

This thing is way faster: ***12GB of DDR3*** and 1TB. They make 2TB now days, you probably want to go for that. And no offense, dude, but a supercomputer is with like 100 processors. That's how they make supercomputers now. Nice try, though, but the computers of today are way better than even the computers of 2007.

Nice work, lets hope you got some good quality stuff (seagate HDD etc) What have you got running on it? (it better be 64bit, or your gonna get slapped :P ) One suggestion i have, you need a second 500gb drive, to set up as a mirror, so you can survive harddrive fail.

Well, my brother won a vista disc on a microsoft website, and it wasn't 64 bit, but we are looking on how to change it, so it detects all of the ram. Western Digital hard drive.

It was probably OEM then, sorry, you're kinda screwed. Also if it is OEM it's stuck to that motherboard.

If its one of the top two versions, it should come with a 64bit disk, or you can send off i think. It has to be 64bit to detect all the ram.

How good is it at Crysis? and you should get a better cooler and OC it, maybe get 2 4890 (new) graphics card as well instead of the 4670's.

Sorry i haven't gotten back, I Will not overclock it, i don't need to nor want to, also i risk the chance of burning out a perfectly good, perfectly fast running computer. Plus it would void the warranty.

Also, not a super-computer, the PS3 is a (very) tiny super-computer (has 8 cores) but most super-computers have a minimum of 3 cores (lets see XP handle that multi-threading.)

We're jealous because we're on dial-up. BTW, trivia for you - if you shift all the letters to the next one HAL, you get a famous computer maker. Lots of good stuff from Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Instructables works on dial-up??

I ask because I just got a phone with dial-up speeds that I can tether to my computer. I use it on car trips etc.

Darn. The only good 56k is for checking email and IM. Sometimes I'll read news, but I have to disable ads, Java, and images, which makes it less exciting.

My highspeed package amazingly enough comes with 10 hours of dialup access, in the event I'm away from home or power outage (use my laptop). The few times I have used it at home, make me want to crawl inside. My poor thinkpad pretty much died before I downloaded msn just so I could talk to someone I was having an important conversation with and then the power went out on me.

My phone will do it, at 3G speeds it loads fast enough to be the same, on GPRS it's a little bit annoying but still not too bad, the phone acts as a modem and automatically compressed images to speed loading... iPhone loads 'ibles fast on wifi and 3G though...

Well, i just blame it on bad economy for the dial up so, nothing to be ashamed of. lol, i've heard that many times, IBM. My favorite book and movie, 2010 was also good, i'm still looking for 2063 and 3001.

I built a computer very similar to this one in January (even has blue RAM heatsinks as well), super fast at everything as well as a multitasking guru. I made sure to put Vista Ultimate 64-bit on it so I could get full use out of my RAM, first time ever dealing with vista and have had no issues other than the occasional search for 64-bit drivers which is easy to find online. I put mine in a completely clear case with lots of blue lights. I'm going to scrap the clear case though and completely custom build one for my needs, since it is plugged into my 46" TV via HDMI so I can sit on my couch and do whatever with a wireless keyboard/ mouse combo.

Hmm, i went with the 32bit version before i knew the difference but it shows up in the system properties. We built a computer almost just like this a month or so ago, about the same setup you said.
