Ice Alaska Venue

The World Ice Art Championships are held in the Ice Park in Fairbanks, Alaska. In 2009 the venue may move to North Pole, Alaska. Each team is provided with a site on a looping trail through the park. The sites are surrounded by small black spruce are double as R.V. parking in the summer. In 1999 I rented chainsaws from the blue bus for the competition.

I don't quite understand what it you make ice sculptures or something?

Yes, check out the main forum and/or group for information about the competition. We will be posting on the step by step process for fabricating the tools, and building the sculpture.
Very cool, can't wait to see it all. But do you realize that the image for your group says there are four artists...but you've got five students?

There are four artists and one archivist on the team for a grand total of five students. While Eric, Jesse, Stephanie, and I carve Laura will document the process.

Like the 'magic bus' from Into the Wild.

A little less "magic" and a little more "chainsaw".

I have a friend with a cabin near the "magic bus". Alaska has a beautiful and harsh landscape. Both the film and the book give a good impression of what life is like on "the last frontier".
