Ideas for a Telescoping Arm for SpectrumLED V2.0 (LAMP)?

This is the project: https://www.instructables.com/id/SpectrumLED-V20-the-ULTIMATE-Variable-Spectrum-Lam/
I want to upgrade the telescoping arm mostly because I can, not because I must ;)

I don't open/telescope it very often because right now it's too long at its shortest position. I adjust the swiveling "head" all the time, and when the rod is tightened so it's easy for me to telescope it, the head swivels which is annoying. I would like to separate them. I already have an idea which I think will be good for the swiveling head: http://woodgears.ca/tripod/head.html

I've come up with the idea of making a scissor lamp, but I don't think that will be very simple to make, so I was wondering if anyone has a simpler and better idea for making something that telescopes (and locks).

Here are three videos of SpectrumLED V2.0. More pictures are in the I'ble...

Hmmm... I just thought of this: http://www.ylighting.com/images/robert-abbey-spot-...

I think it should work. Maybe even extend in three positions? Might be a bit problematic with balancing (counter-weighting) issues...

I see no videos or Downunder's comment

You can get broom stick or handles for a squeegee that extent, same for replacement tend poles.
It is basically just a screw collar that pulls a bock itght into the pipe to lock it.
Should be simple enough to either modify this or to get some checp handles to cut to the length you need.
Squeegee heads for these system also come with a "swivel", only goes sideway though.
Check your favourite hardware store and visist their cleaning section.
If in doubt do the same for some cheap dollar shops as well ;)

Yes I have an adjustable mop handle which I can use. Not sure if it will be better, but I'll see how I can modify it. :)

Did you consider a "selfie stick" ?
You can even go overboard and add a gimbal system to keep the lamp always in the same orientation....

In the I'ble, I actually wrote the option of using a selfie stick, or a broom/mop handle!

One of those camera stabilizers? Not a bad idea! I could make one from wood and salvaged printer rods!

Consider another thing for mobile use on a stick:
Aluminium handles are often wide enough to allow to be misused for some Li Ion batteries.
You can use their weight to balance the system ;)
If you also use a dampened hinge system to seperate handle, lamp and "battery pack" you can swing and move around with it without any weight shifting problems.
Check out how these harness systems for the cameras work they use for camera men in rough terrain.
Harness takes the weight and the counter weight below the handle keeps the cam stable in almost all conditions.
Since you are not dealing with several kg a wrist system as used for powerful sligshots should to the work of the harness.
