I'm a Freak of Nature (Literally)

New research shows that people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor. A team at the University of Copenhagen have tracked down a genetic mutation which took place 6-10,000 years ago and is the cause of the eye colour of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today.

I had blue eyes, a deep blue, but years of hiding in the dark, away from the sun which burns my skin, my eyes have become a bit grayer (age might have something to do with that, and maybe diet :-) Now they look a much lighter blue-gray then they have ever looked. My eyes have grayed before the hairs on my head....though my beard comes out pretty gray now...

Just one more thing to make my life difficult... It's hard enough getting the idea of recessive and dominant alleles across as it is, now I have to tell my pupils that they're mutants? And what about me? My eyes change colour during the day, occasionally with mood, but often fairly randomly - mainly between shades of brown and green, but occasionally as far as dark blue.
