Join the Flock

From the Simply Knitting blog:

Eden Arts have launched a public art project that’s totally caught our imagination! The Cumbria-based organisation are inviting you to make pom-pom sheep to create a gigantic fuzzy flock – think Antony Gormley’s ‘Field for the British Isles’, only fluffier and more colourful!

The aim is to raise awareness of the wonder of sheep’s wool while encouraging collaborative creativity, so make sure you use sheep's wool to make your pom-pom beasties, and invite as many people to join in as you can!

To whet your appetite you can visit a flock of 125 of the sheep at Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery in Carlisle, where they will remain till the end of 2011. Over the next few months they’re hoping to increase this number to several thousand!

You can download full sheep-making instructions at www.jointheflock.co.uk (and I've attached them below as well).

Heh - when I saw the title I figured it was an invitation to join the First Church of Kite or something...

Haha, now *that* would be a turnaround!

Really, I just heartily approve of mass-participation art, especially in the county of my birth.
I wonder what kind of pastor you would be. :P

How about a very literal fire and brimstone preacher?
You have my attention!
Hmm, but that wouldn't fare well with WOOL, however it WOULD go well with the art of Pyrography :-D
Thank you for finding this! I am a needle felter, and think this is a wonderful project. I'm going to pass along your info. Thanks again!!!!!

You're welcome.

Kitewife is going to do this with the knitting club she runs at her school, as a way of reducing her enormous stash of wool.

My wife is really into knitting- I'll make sure to tell her about this. Carlisle is about a five hour drive from my birthplace (Lakenheath.)
