You can make the link active. Edit the forum post (you should see an "Edit" at the top of the right sidebar). In the "toolbar" above the forum text, there should be a little icon which looks like a globe with a figure eight (supposed to be two links in a chain). Highlight the URL, then click that icon, and it will be turned into an active hyperlink.
