Logging in

I don't know what is going on w/ your log in system but it takes me 5 to 6 times to be able to get logged in sometimes it is ridiculous & I'd love to be able to log in w/ out any issues lol.

If you are having login issues....

Please reply WITH information about your Operating System (Windows 7, Vista, Mac OS X) AND the Browser your using (IE 8, Firefox 11, Safari 5.1.4).

The programmers need this information in order to recreate the issue.

I am using Windows 7 & the latest edition of firefox. When I am on my iPad I don't have any issues @ all & that uses Safari so I think that the issue is w/ firefox but I'm not entirely sure I would go back to IE but that has more bugs then an entomologists lab.
There are constant logging in issues like that. Or your log in session times out after 20 minutes of inactivity. Making it very hard to get any work done an an instructable at times.
What OS and browser are you using?

I really don't think its a wide spread issue, I'm logged in for days (if not weeks) at a time (and I know others are too). So, if anyone is having a problem staying logged in, they should leave their info so staff know what to test with (to try and replicate the problem).

If they can't recreate the problem, it's going to be very difficult for them to fix. ;)

For login issues with Firefox, check your browser settings.
*To do this, go to Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies

If you are using the option to "Clear history when Firefox closes", make sure you do not have "cookies" selected (checkmark in checkbox) under "Settings".

In the "Accept Cookies" section, you can have it set to "Keep Until: I close Firefox", however, you will need to add an "Exception" in the "Allow" list for websites that you trust (and want to keep and update cookies for), such as Instructables. (Simply type in: instructables.com)

Also, remember NOT to use the "Private Browser" option when visiting Instructables, because through private browsing, NO history, or cookie information is saved.

Let me know if this worked for you, or if you need more help (as there are a few other options). BTW, I agree with you about IE... and Safari hasn't been a problem with Instructables (that's what I use).

* I had to dig up this info online (I use a Mac, and Firefox on a Mac is different), so if the path to your cookie settings is a little different, don't worry.

It logged me in on the first try this is great, thank you so much.
You're welcome. I'm glad its working now. ;)
Same here. I won't let me log in as well so I decided to use log in via facebook
They are aware of it and have even taken control of my account to try and figure it out. There are a total of 3 different system i'll use with the site. Often when i first log into the system i'll have to log back into the site. 2 of the systems are Win 7 and i'm using Firefox. They don't have the time out issue. My XP system at home using Chrome is the one with the problem/

Operating system? Browser (and version)?

When I log in, I tick the "keep me logged in" box, and then every time I start the internet, the site pops up already logged in.

I only get logged out when Conker-X wants to look at his account, or when there's an update to FireFox.

I use windows 7 & my net is firefox, & I also keep the box checked but I get logged out every time, so I don't know what is going on.

Clear the cache on your browser, and delete the cookie for Instructables. Then log back in. (Your browser might be using an old cookie, or old cache pages).

I do that once a month so I don't think that, that's the problem but I'll try anyway again & see how it goes. But I'd still like the site owners to look into this issue anyway.
