Magnifier lamp base broken - how to make replacement?

I have one of those handy articulated-arm magnifier lamps but the TOTALLY CHEAP INADEQUATE CRAPPY clamp base not only broke but gouged my desk as it did. I have beginner woodworking skills and tools; can someone make an Instructable on building a better replacement? The lamp and the arms and everything are fine, it was just the cheap plastic clamp that broke.

Connect the body of the lamp to a REAL C-Clamp with hose clamps. I recently did something similar to that.

I can't quite picture that. I"ll work on it, though! Thanks!

Imagine that the rod in the picture is the lamp's body/stand:

Ah, yes, now I see. But you still have the problem of a big, gangly, heavy thing pivoting around on a tiny little base, don't you? Seems like...

Thank you for the picture! You went to a bunch of trouble to help! Very kind of you.

Glad I maybe somehow might have helped! This wasn't made for a lamp, it was for something else that failed. The only trouble was to find it in my camera, and post it here :)

I have an idea for making something similar (I've already tested it, and it works), but it will require more work, and will be better. I can send you the link the the future Instructable when it will be made :)

Ooh! That would be great! Thanks!

I wanted to make something, but I don't think I will in the end. I'll show you these pictures of my homemade stand for SpectrumLED, since I've already showed them to someone else. It can move up/down, turn right/left, and swivel because of the thin metal of the lamp. Just a matter of time before that breaks...

Hope this helps! :)

Hi and thanks! That's what I need, ideas to chuck in the skull and let simmer...

Changed my mind, again, and again...

This might help: https://www.instructables.com/id/Articulating-70W-S... It's similar to what I planned in the beginning...
