Makers Wanted

Proper Television is looking for Makers to star in a new TV series.

If selected for the show, you will enter a series of build competitions, including making things such as:

-Modifying a lawnmower into a 70mph drag racer
-Designing catapults to hurl pumpkins across football fields
-Constructing Rube Goldberg machines
-Building human-powered submarines

Our goal is to find multifaceted individuals with aptitude in numerous fields pertinent to these sorts of projects. People with experience in things like engineering, electronics, physics, welding, pyrotechnics, construction, engines and industrial design—these are the sorts we’re looking to get in touch with.

Does this sound like you? What about someone you know?

Let us know, we'd love to hear from you! Email Jesse at jesse@propertelevision.com

Thanks!

Jesse

Would you consider casting high school engineering students? My friend and I would be interested in applying.
Proper J (author) in reply to QtirpakFeb 15, 2012. 11:10 AM
Unfortunately we're trying to restrict our search to persons 30 years and older. Sorry.
CanHasDIY in reply to Proper JFeb 22, 2012. 12:46 PM
Under 30 (barely) - bummer, especially considering I've built a drag-racing lawn mower before.

Que sera sera!

P.S. What's the deadline for submission? I've got some buddies I can pass the info to who may be interested.

If you're an experienced maker with an impressive skill set, the age restriction won't matter. I suggest you put together an audition video! And if you have friends you think might be right for the show, pass the message along to them as well.

I look forward to screening your video!

I speak for him and myself when I say "Shucks". We are dissappointed, but wish you the best with your show. Let us know if you change your mind.

Hmmm, sounds interesting.
dombeef says: Feb 19, 2012. 12:57 PM
is there an age limit?
Kiteman in reply to dombeefFeb 19, 2012. 1:23 PM
In another post, they said "over 30".

@ Proper TV

I've tweeted this (maybe others will see it and re-tweet it for you) - I'm surprised that you don't seem to have your own account?
Proper J (author) in reply to KitemanFeb 15, 2012. 2:33 PM
Thanks Kiteman, I appreciate it. And you're right, it's probably time I got an account!
kelseymh says: Feb 13, 2012. 3:03 PM
If you're legit (see your comments below :-), you might consider providing a link to your corporate Web site, so that interested Makers have somewhere to find more information.

I'm surprised you all don't have a Wikipedia page (several of your Canadian shows do, but your production company's name is always a red [non-existent] link).

Hi Kelsey,

Very few Canadian Production companies have Wikipedia pages, although some Canadian shows do. You're welcome to check out our corporate website (propertelevision.com, in case you had trouble locating it) for further info.

Because the show is only in development, very little information is available about it online. Interested parties will be given additional details on a discretionary basis.
kelseymh in reply to Proper JFeb 15, 2012. 12:31 PM
Yep, did that. I was suggesting you put that link directly into the original post so others don't have to track it down themselves.

I understand that with a show not yet in production, you're not going to have specifics about it (and don't want to give it away!).

I don't have much formal training, but i was pre-enrolled into engineering school, have a high I.Q., and my low income upbringing has made made me a very creative thinker and resourceful individual. I am usually pretty good at whatever i attempt from the gitgo. If there's any room for someone like me, sign me up.
Proper J (author) in reply to AttmosFeb 15, 2012. 11:10 AM
Sorry, experience is paramount. Maybe we can talk in five years!
GASSYPOOTS says: Feb 14, 2012. 3:32 PM

heathbar64 says: Feb 13, 2012. 6:29 PM
Dude! I could totally do that! I've been a tinkerer inventor for my whole life.
Kiteman says: Feb 13, 2012. 12:33 PM
Ach, I bet you're in the states...

I'd love to have a stab at something like this with a team of other 'iblers.
kelseymh in reply to KitemanFeb 13, 2012. 3:05 PM
I think they're in the 51st State (that should get 'em all riled up :-)
Proper J (author) in reply to KitemanFeb 13, 2012. 1:13 PM
The show will take place over a series of competitions ranging all over North America. We're looking for Canadian and American citizens to cast.

If this includes you, we'd love to hear from you!
Kiteman in reply to Proper JFeb 13, 2012. 1:52 PM
Drop me a line when you're ready to import foreign contestants - I'm in the UK.
steveastrouk in reply to KitemanFeb 13, 2012. 2:46 PM
Yes, when you can finally sort out a decent North American team, by a process of elimination, we'll be here to take you on.

Kiteman in reply to steveastroukFeb 13, 2012. 2:43 PM
Scrapheap Challenge did a transatlantic series...
steveastrouk in reply to KitemanFeb 13, 2012. 3:03 PM
Yeah. Like the 100th anniversary of flight one where the UK team somewhat beat everyone else.
Kiteman in reply to steveastroukFeb 15, 2012. 11:49 AM
You, me, Jayefuu, gmjhowe take on the world...
steveastrouk in reply to KitemanFeb 15, 2012. 12:23 PM

Steve
Kiteman in reply to steveastroukFeb 15, 2012. 12:31 PM
Maybe we can persuade them to film over here?
steveastrouk in reply to KitemanFeb 15, 2012. 1:38 PM
How did that thing we used to sing in the playground go ?
"Come and have a go if you think you're hard enough" ?

Steve
Kiteman in reply to steveastroukFeb 15, 2012. 2:07 PM

I already contacted the Instructables staff for suggestions on how to spread the message about this show. They suggested I use the forum. So here we are.
kelseymh in reply to Proper JFeb 13, 2012. 3:01 PM
In that case, this topic should be Featured to promote a wider readership. Done and done!
monsterlego in reply to Proper JFeb 13, 2012. 12:11 PM
Sorry, i wasn't sure if this was advertising. Carry on.
