Motorcycle LED headlight bar

Wanted to make my own battery powered headlight for my dirtbike, I want to keep it in the 15x4 dimension. I would like to make it as bright as humanly possible in that dimension. Cost isnt that big of a deal just dont want to drop $300 on a pre fabbed one if I can make one for much less. A list would be nice, primarily LED's to use, battery, heat sink issues. Again I would like to build one that is really bright right in front and carries for a good distance. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is the 15X4 demension in inches, cm, or what?

If you want something to serve as a headlight for illuminating a large area in front of you, you could get a batter powered rechargable handheld spotlight.
You would have to come up with the mechanical mounting needed to secure it.

I think I've seen some of these at Harbor Freight (www.harborfreight.com) or wherever flashlights and lanterns are sold.

personally, i like NOT re-invinting the wheel. i would get a decent (read $20 ish) LED flash light (like a maglight...they make them LED now and they're darned bright). i'd dissassemble that and hook it up however i saw fit on the front of the bike. (or get a clamp that i can clamp it to the bars with, that way if i needed to i could still take the flashlight off the bars)
