Instructables

My dad doesn't like some instructables.

He says that i shouldn't trust the recipes and some of the stuff on here because most of the recipes i make from here aren't that good like randofo's apple pie. :-(

skunkbait5 years ago
The only recipes that worry me are questionable gunpowder and whisky recipes. Bad apple pie (probably) won't kill you.
DJ Radio5 years ago
My dad doesnt care.
Yerboogieman (author)  DJ Radio5 years ago
I don't care about your dad.
if you dont care, why bother saying it?
Yerboogieman (author)  DJ Radio5 years ago
Because i want your dad to know you are a failure for posting this pointless information on a good site which makes your dad a failure as a parent or someone who caused something to go wrong in your life to make you post pointless stuff like this online.
Yerboogieman (author)  Yerboogieman5 years ago
Unlike your dad, i convinced mine to like instructables. :-)
You kinda crossed the line by insulting DJ and bringing his dad up in the insult.
Yerboogieman (author)  Camisado5 years ago
He crossed the line when he commented. =) i win.
Nah, he doesn't crossed the line when he said "My dad doesn't care". You did. But anyway that's just IMO.
Alright boys, let's leave the ~~mothers~~ fathers out of this
:-P
randofo5 years ago
It came out fine for me. Everyone at Instructables HQ had a slice. No one seemed to complain. (Although, to be honest, my blueberry pie is better). Anyhow, next time, rather than sit back and criticize you for what you do and are interested in, perhaps your father should show some interest himself and help you. If he had done that in the first place, he wouldn't need to complain about the apples not being peeled. Heck, how old are you? I'm sure that I never even tried to make a pie for my parents at your age. If you ask me... actually... never mind.
Yerboogieman (author)  randofo5 years ago
He made everything for christmas and thanksgiving, i made the potatoes, pies and green bean casserole. he helps me with everything, including stuff from here, but i told him, i wanted to try the recipe, and make changes later, he said the pie was Really good, yet didn't like the peels getting caught in his teeth and throat, its weird. 16 in May, its one of those things, you want to do something this way, and next time, make changes to it. i have used this recipe again though, with peeled apples, i love the crumb top.
Who's your dad, Chef Gordon Ramsay?
Yerboogieman (author)  caitlinsdad5 years ago
He's the Tim Anderson mixed with Eric of cooking.
I've been thinking this one through for a while, and have no idea what it means... Can you elaborate?
Yerboogieman (author)  canida5 years ago
Eric cooks, Tim builds kool DIY stuff.
So he cooks "kool" DIY stuff?
Yerboogieman (author)  whatsisface5 years ago
yeah, sure, whatever. Right now i can imagine canida saying "Eric, Tim check this out, *reading* Haha how stupid." then them laughing.
I enjoy that... I once accidently rockrolled an intern....
Wow, I've heard of rick rolling but not rock rolling :P
very funny my fellow twisted... A rock roll is when you tell someone you are going to be landscaping, when in fact you trick them into pushing rocks down hills.
I thought the point was to trick them into pushing rocks uphill, Mr. Sissy Fuss.
....
KILL the snitch!!
Hehe, you can get them to do your dirty work for you. I like that idea.
Indeed...
Eric has built some cool stuff. I've seen it. Perhaps he need to build more stuff and eat less?
Yerboogieman (author)  randofo5 years ago
Maybe.
Yerboogieman (author)  randofo5 years ago
You are getting the idea he's fat, aren't you?
No, in fact, he probably shouldn't eat less. He's a skinny guy. It's probably not a good idea. Just making false correlations...
Yerboogieman (author)  randofo5 years ago
Oh, i thought you were talking of my dad, oops.
D: Tim + Eric = ?!?!
I am in the exact same position :-/
Yerboogieman (author)  whatsisface5 years ago

Blueberry ALWAYS whups apple pie...
Doctor What5 years ago
My good apple pie: One pre-made crust (I like pillsbury) 1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg 8 cups thinly sliced apples 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 5 lbs of plastic explosives Prepare the crust in your favorite tin. Then, mix the ingredients together, leaving the plastic explosives for last. Place them in the center of your pie, and bake at 400 degrees for an hour.
Where's the instructable? I want to see pictures of your pie, or better, a video!
n8man rachel5 years ago
Of what, him cooking/making it, or him eating it?
Goodhart5 years ago
Earlier today, my wife had some show on, Oprah or something, and some expert said that he only eats efficiently, so he peels apples, and then eats only the peels and throws the rest away....it is too high in calories, he says, and most of the vitamins are in just under the peel....... o_O
I looked at his recipe, it's just a conventional apple pie recipe, how'd you mess it up?
Yerboogieman (author)  Tool Using Animal5 years ago
In the recipe, he left the peels on. So did i.
Yeah, there are people who do that, do it to potatos too, they're barbarians.
Yerboogieman (author)  Tool Using Animal5 years ago
I love potatoes with the peels left on.
I like both apple pie and mashed potatoes with the peels left on! *points to my Instructables for both*
Yerboogieman (author)  canida5 years ago
Eh, i thought it wasn't bad but my dad hates having to pick things out of his teeth.
There's a new technique your dad may be interested in.

It's called chewing ;-)
If Nacho or Skunkbait posted this topic, I would have been really tempted to reply "All both of them?" but I'll behave, for now.
. heehee I'm glad that you were able to resist . BTW, that should be "Bofum?".
I stand corrected. I am not edjumucated in "backwoods leet".
. Dang city slickers. And a damn Yankee to boot. Bah!
Yerboogieman (author)  NachoMahma5 years ago
Its those damn pin stripes i tell ya!
I resemble that remark. But more accurately a Brooklynite, do the right thing.
. Y'all sure are some strange, strange
folks up there.
Yerboogieman (author)  caitlinsdad5 years ago
Yeah, i think Kiteman should behave as well...
Yerboogieman (author)  Kiteman5 years ago
Have you had string beans with the string thing going down your throat?
ROFLOL!
I know people that leave the skin on kiwi fruit and eat it. More fiber or maybe they like having a hairball in their throat.
:-) I am one of those persons ! A little rinse to get any dirt off the outside, and I chow down from there (and my wife complains every time I do it too LOL).
Yerboogieman (author)  Goodhart5 years ago
Its good!
Yerboogieman (author)  caitlinsdad5 years ago
It's not bad when you slide your hand over it a few times.
It is barbarian to peel away the flavor and the vitamins before eating. >:-)
Yerboogieman (author)  Goodhart5 years ago
You do know, it is apple pie, I'm pretty sure no one is going to eat it for the vitamins.
what about for the flavor? ;-)
Yerboogieman (author)  Goodhart5 years ago
Apples, maple syrup, crumbs, cinnamon, apple cider, lemon juice, combines into a great flavor. Although the peels are off, the apples still have a lot of flavor, especially if you have 2 or 3 kinds of apples, Washington has tons.
As you get older, you find you do not absorb vitamins as easily, so yes, we eat things because they are healthy, and the flavor is enhanced as the taste buds slowly go (of course, one must still have their teeth, to chew it well). Notwithstanding, I understand that some will have problems with the texture and constancy of anything with peels in it (not me, I like it with them in). :-)
Now that you mention it, yes, yes it is. ;-)

Wow! 71 comments about apples peeled or not in a apple pie. ...72
Joe Martin5 years ago
Well you could just peeled the apples if you didn't like to sound of it.
Yerboogieman (author)  Joe Martin5 years ago
Yeah, but i just follow recipes a little too strictly i guess.
Learning to treat recipes as more general guidelines is part of the fun in learning to really cook, and understand why you're doing what you're doing. And yes, that involves both trial and error. ;)

Clearly your dad has opted out of being a future pie-taster. Find a hungrier set of test subjects.
That's a concept that took me a while to really get - that a recipe isn't a God-given set of laws, it's a license to create! You can tinker with it. Sometimes it's even good when you do that. :D

And I agree, I can't imagine dissing the cook like that. Even if it goes bad, there's no reason to get mad...
When I first started, I was given a good rule of thumb: make things pretty much by the recipe the first time, but if something does not appeal to you, leave it out. Rule #2: until you are a practiced cook/baker: experiment with the cooking, follow the recipe with the baking (like cakes and pastries etc). A simple but wrong substitution can turn a cake into a brick. ;-)
Yerboogieman (author)  Goodhart5 years ago
Yeah, i can understand that.
Goodhart canida5 years ago
Indeed ! And once a person gets to know a wide variety of spices and such, through experimentation, a whole plethora of tastes awaits them. :-)

Hint: don't sever to meat and potatoes only types. They are biased ;-)
blugyblug5 years ago
THATS IT? ARE YOU SERIOUS!? If your dad doesnt like that, he doesnt know anything about instructables... Seriously, i tried going on instructables at school and it said something like "Illegal or militant" or something like that. Some stuff on here is pretty dangerous and usually illegal...Like my ible,
canida5 years ago
Lesson to be learned here? Trust, but verify. ;)
randofo canida5 years ago
Hey hey... You had a slice, right? Were you sparing my feelings or was it okay?
My questions EXACTLY for Ed. Knowing the fine folks who work at the USPS, probably I would have to make cookies in person to really do them justice...stale, smashed crumbs aren't so nifty. :D
Yah... Maybe I'll bring some cookies or Grilled Pineapple Fruit Salad to Maker Faire....
canida randofo5 years ago
I don't remember! You'll have to bring in another one. ;)
Kiteman5 years ago
What? He doesn't like the results of one pie, so he's banned you looking at the other >20,000 projects?
Yerboogieman (author)  Kiteman5 years ago
Well, technically not banned, it just seems as though he doesn't like most of the thousands of projects.
Clearly you need a larger sample size! And you probably need to start documenting and posting his food projects.

A lot of them are poor, but you need to look at them to learn good judgment - put that to him?

L
What else have you made? I never knew unpeeled apples could be so upsetting. :P
Yerboogieman (author)  jessyratfink5 years ago
Everything.
Everything. Wow! I wish I could make every recipe on the internets. You should write a book detailing your culinary adventures. :P
Yerboogieman (author)  jessyratfink5 years ago
lol, pretty much everything, my dad likes stuff that is good, and sometimes expensive, like demi-glaze sauce.

If your dad doesn't like what is here, perhaps he should sign-up and post his own recipes? L
