Need help buying a bass
I know their has to be some people on this site who play bass or have bass experience. I am looking to buy a beginner bass pack. I plan on playing for a while so quality is important. I am trying to stay under $300. The pack should have at least a guitar and an amp. If you have any suggestions please place links in your comments.
I was thinking of these:
Epiphone EB-0 Electric Bass/All-Access Bass Pack
Squier by Fender Stop Dreaming Start Playing Affinity Precision Bass Pack With Fender Rumble 15 Amp
Peavey Zodiac Bass Stage Pack
Anyone have experience with these or know if they're any good or worth the price?

the best for start is a used bass, i recomend guitarcenter used gears you only have to make som small adjustments than can be done in the same store and it ll cost you no more than 100 dollars

My opinion here but for $300 you can't go wrong with an Ibanez Bass Starter Kit. I bought one and it's great for beginning...the amp is weak and I would definitely recommend getting a bigger amp when you can. And a new cable. But for the money the bass itself is pretty good. My bass is currently being 'borrowed' by a friend playing with my guys band. He was a guitarist and drummer before, and has switched to bass to be able to play with the band. He plays finger, pick and slap and he was very impressed with my 'bottom of the line' Ibanez. He says it will do him just fine until he decides whether he wants a headless/fretless or whatever and he can afford to get one. I'm also renting a Kustom bass head and using it with a Peavey bass cabinet that we already had. The sound is great. The double pick ups heap in that area. The construction is good. And the knobs have been pretty good so far, I've only had it about 6 months, but everything I've read about Ibanez is that the bass are quality. So for a starter kit at the price, you can't beat it. Have you gone into any of the music stores around you? You need to at least check out some models and see the fit and finish you get for your money. The shape has to be comfortable and the neck feel right. You can always upgrade the hardware/pickups/amp later. Are you taking music lessons or know of any music teachers that might have some advice for beginners? Music stores sell used instruments that might be in your budget range. Older/vintage gear is usually built better. Until you can save up a few more bucks for an amp, you can use your computer, stereo, or just about anything with an audio input to make noise. IIRC, you don't even need a pre-amp (double check that before depending on it). Or use one of the headphone amp iBles.
. PS: Some of my favorite bass work is done by Gary Thain on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uriah_Heep_(band) Uriah Heep]'s Uriah Heep Live (1973 Bronze/Mercury) album. Check it out.

. If you're not looking for an instrument to used in a performance, then you may be able to find a bang-around-the-house bass/amp combo at your local Wal-Mart (or equiv). Local music stores may have something, but expect to pay a little more. . Look in your local free ads for someone that has given up on playing the bass. Or place your own I'm-looking-for-a-cheap-bass ad.
