Newsletter - How to unsubscribe?

Hello,

I want to unsubscribe from the instructables newsletter. Normally in case of virtually any other organization, apart from the most scummy ones, I would just click on the link somewhere at the bottom of an email and had it sorted in a second but instructables seem to make it especially difficult to unsubscribe. Perhaps I need an instructable for this too.

So far I sent messages with a request to unsubscribe to the following:

- reply-to address of the newsletter,
- service@instructables.com,
- support@instructables.com,
- and also disabled all email alerts in the settings.

None of that had any effect, what a PITA. What else can I do apart from filing a complaint to the ICO?

Hi,

I sent unsubscribe requests on:

- Date: Mon, 17 Feb 2014 11:40:50 +0100

- Date: Sun, 23 Feb 2014 18:21:42 +0100

and

- Date: Wed, 26 Feb 2014 11:24:49 +0100

respectively.

Regarding the link there is no link. Ok, it turns out there is a link but *it's not visible* as your newsletter is badly constructed. Looking at the source reveals the following:

<body>
<div style="background-color:#cfd2d3;margin:0;padding:0;width:100%!important">
<center>
<table width="100%" height="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" bgcolor="#CFD2D3" style="background-color:#cfd2d3;min-height:100%!important;margin:0;padding:0;width:100%!important"><tbody><tr>

...

...

...

</tr></tbody></table>
</center>
</div>
<br><p><a href="https://email.m1.instructables.com/u/Yz1jNTlxOSZkPTI4MTAmaT0yMDE0MDMxMTE2MDQwOS4zMjUwMy4yMTYyOCU0MG0xLmluc3RydWN0YWJsZXMuY29tJmg9ZDkwNzQzYmQ5MTRjNmQ4ZGI5MWI2MzIyOTM1Y2U1ZWEmcj1wbGFjZWJ5dGhlc2VhJTQwZ214LmNvbSZ0PSUyQQ&lang=en" target="_blank">unsubscribe</a></p>
<img width="1px" height="1px" alt="" src="https://email.m1.instructables.com/o/Yz1jNTlxOSZkPTI4MTAmaT0yMDE0MDMxMTE2MDQwOS4zMjUwMy4yMTYyOCU0MG0xLmluc3RydWN0YWJsZXMuY29tJmg9ZmQ5MzUzMmE3MDE3ZjgxNWYyOTgyZjI4MDdjMmNiNzgmbT0xNW45JnI9cGxhY2VieXRoZXNlYSU0MGdteC5jb20">
<!-- RW5kIEdNWCBNYWlsIEJvZHk= --></body>

So you have a table set to fill out the entire screen estate available and then append the unsubscribe link. No wonder people can't see it.

Yes, the unsubscribe link at the end of the newsletter will immediately remove you from the newsletter mailing list and is the way to unsubscribe from the newsletter.

We check our email daily, but I don't see anything from your email address in our inbox. Service and Support will both send to our same email. Would you like to try again and I can see if the email comes through?

If you're not seeing the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter, then that's a technical problem on the Instructables side. I just looked at it in Gmail and in Outlook, and the unsubscribe link is actually below the whole thing (as opposed to in line with the social media connect buttons or elsewhere in the HTML.) I've attached a screenshot from Outlook that shows the unsubscribe link off to the bottom left.

Since you've emailed service@, this'll be resolved for you by tomorrow at the latest.

Scroll to the bottom of the newsletter, and there's an unscribe link.
