Painting My Room

Well my mom decided that she would give me permission to paint my room how I wanted. I had an idea of like... a silhouette of a NYC skyline (or any skyline) in black around the walls that goes about 3 or 4 feet up. Then above that would be like... a bluish color. Then in the top corner above my bed, a Orange circle sun were the vertex of the ceiling and 2 walls would be the center of the circle.

So first I need to find a silhouette, preferribly just black buildings, kinda like this, but less complicated. Something easily taped off.

Also, I want you suggestions on the paint colors. I'm pretty set on black for the buildings but I'm not sure about the sky/sun.

This (picture below) would be awesome to do in a room, albeit much more complicated (the window light could be added later). That is just an idea of a silhouette, etc.

Rather than try and do it with masking tape, get newspaper or butcher's paper lightly glued to the wall (I've been known to use elmer's and then remove it with large amounts of water). Then get the silhouette on the paper and use an exacto knife to cut on the line. Much more precise, and then details wouldn't be an issue.

Also, with the sun, I suspect that there is going to be a cognitive dissonace between where the "light" of the sun will be coming from and where the light is hitting the skyline. Perhaps make it the moon instead, or have a color fade as a sunrise, like this picture, and them no orb in the corner? It's your room, it's up to you.

Colorfades are nice and easy to get to look really professional with just some good masking-off and spraypaint. Although I'd grab the blues and oranges from this picture, they're much richer. If you want some help, I can give you some pointers on how to do that.

Nono Sorry if you misunderstood me, I mean like a silhoutte of the skyline, not the actual mural.

So a sunrise at the NYC skyline is the scene you want?

I painted my room (an outdoor scene, however) and if I were you, I would not use a corner to paint the sun in. It may look fine to you, but I didn't like how a tree looked. Hard to describe.

You don't necessarily need to paint a sun, if you don't really care. Here is a good example of a no-sun mural.
