Png display weirdity

In my recent forum posting in Events, "Perseids", you'll see a thumbnail (shamelessly copied from Wikipedia) of the constellation of Perseus. Its grey (although not 50 shades)

In the post itself, the image, now displayed in full, is black, with a white line drawing in the centre.

What causes that then ?

Fail. PNGs allow transparency but JPGs don't. Robot's converted your png to jpg and it looks like he got confused in the process. Check out the page that shows all of the size options for your image, some of them converted correctly, some didnt:

Facinating, interestingly the original size later called LARGE but same goes inverted..

It's not the site - if you copy and paste a PNG like that into Paint, it also comes up mostly black.

If I need to use an image like that (lacking photoshop or any such on this netbook), I tend to take a screen-shot, crop off the bits I don't need, and then cite the source as usual.

It's something to do with the site, because it handles it differently in different places !
