Printer hack needed

Would anyone know how I might hack my HP Photosmart C7280 to print unlimited (or at least 72") page lengths?  I’m trying to print a banner from Illustrator, and the printer stops at 11".  Width limit is a given, but there’s no reason I see that a printer couldn’t just keep on printing length-wise.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kennan

You shouldn't need to hack the physical printer.  That sort of stuff is generally handled by the printer driver on your computer.  Are you on a Windoze box or a real computer :-) ?

For the Mac, from Illustrator go to the "Page Setup..." popup box, and under "Paper Size" choose "Manage Custom Sizes...".  You should then define your own paper, with an arbitrary length.  There "ought" to be something analogous for Windoze, but I don't know enough about that platform to help.

Heh, no, I have a "real" computer.  Sadly, though, I’d made all the appropriate settings, and for some inane reason the printer simply won’t run the custom length.

What’s also interesting is that it will print 8.5 X 17, but at 33"  it defaults to 11".  This leads me to believe that it’s a software issue — and a bloody irritating, superfluous one at that.

The big Users Guide (search on Google) has a bullet under "Papers to Avoid" that specifically says "banner paper."  Perhaps this is a hardware/sensor issue on the printer?

I really hate to suggest this (given my own past experience), but have you tried calling HP tech support?  Don't hesitate to ask that the problem be escalated if the call center drone doesn't help.

Yup, called them.  I spoke with a really friendly guy who had no idea if they could do this or not.  He tried to look up the specs, etc. but he just couldn't find an answer.  I really think a software hack would be necessary.  Just no idea how to do that, obviously.

Thanks for the paper info..
