Pro Accounts

Right, Can I just say that why should Eric have to reach into his own pocket if the site is getting too costly to run.

You either get a pro account or you don't.

What would you rather have, a slightly limited instuctables account or no instructables whatsoever.

So please just stop bitching about pro accounts, protesting or whatever. Just try to remember that this all is a trial and it could all not go to plan.

I myself will be buying an pro account depending on what it is like and what happens after the three months is up.

Rant over, Peace out!

No, Eric has explained before that mores ads alone would not be enough to cover the costs of running the site.

I also going to delete your above comment as i goes against this whole topic, Without pro this site might not be here so shut up and be thankful that your even using it =D

Why do you want to quell discussion? I've no patience for whining and ad hominem attacks, either, but all that user did was make a suggestion. That was way uncalled for.

Since you aren't an admin, you don't have the ability to delete comments beyond those on your orangeboard. You may flag them, but the removal is at the discretion of the admins.

I'm aware of that now, I always thought for could in your own topics, oh well. LR & Redneck, I apologise for that comment as it does seem VERY nasty and brash the way I put it, I really did not mean it to come over that way at all and I'm very sorry that it did. As you can tell I'm not one with words and what I think comes out straight onto the keyboard, The same happens in real life with talking too and it sometimes does not end well. Sometimes I need to learn to shut my big fat mouth. :(

Thanks something you should ask Eric as I have the idea of the total running costs of the site, however I do know that what revenue their getting now isn't enough.

Eh, no worries, I do it too, though do pay attention about the be nice policy, meant the whole shut up and such thing... If you're condescending people won't listen, however just a little bit of cockiness is always welcome. : )

I'm sure you must be sick of the bone of hearing about it. People hate change, We might lose a few members, I'd rather people leave than stay and complain. They will all get used it in due time!

Yes, as soon as I could get the money over to the PP account, I had a 2 year subscription. I too have only one thing against the Pro account, and that is the name Pro. It is too much like calling one's self a professional Policeman, because they have paid dues to the Fraternal Order of the Police (which nearly anyone can join by paying the dues). Still, it didn't stop me from supporting the site as best as I can.

Eric is working on a choice of titles to go where to pro logos go, It puts me off a but as it almost puts you on a pedestal above other users.

Yeah, even contributing member can sound as though others have not made any contribution (ibles, etc.), this is kind of a tough one to come up with a good title for. . .

It would be nice to have the choice to have no logo next to your name and maybe just have "Site supporter" just on your profile below your picture or something.

I don't like Pro, but I understand the need for it. The only things I find against it are as follows: As far as I know, there's no way to pay by cash. I don't have a credit card, don't have PayPal, and Dad refuses to pay for "Some dumb website" The price for the 2 year is a tad high and I don't want rebilling. I also have to consider my expenses. I could dump my paid forum and save 50 dollars a month. Might not be bad as keeping both a free and a paid forum up is ridiculous. So I know part of your pain. I don't want people staring at the big PRO badge and thinking, "What a show off. I can't get it." My All Steps and my Secondary Images are at risk! Allsteps makes it easy to decide, "Can I do this, or will it be too much?" in a simple scroll down rather than 'click.... click.... click...' to see whether I even want to attempt it. It drives a huge wedge in the community. People will realize that there will be PRO people who will get too wild with the, "I'm better than you cause I paid." or "Quit crying and buy Pro and you'll be happy." remarks. All in all, I don't think Pro will help people out. It might help instructables, but at what cost?

Economically it makes perfect sense, but I can see why some people will be mad. We don't like change, especially when privileges are revoked. I love instructables, and would gladly pay the 40-ish dollars to go pro; but I am starting college and I don't know how much free time i will have to enjoy the pro -ibles bliss.

I completely agree. The amount of fuss people are putting up is absolutely appalling. I don't think I've heard so many lame excuses and general cattiness since we stopped buying fancy Starbucks coffee for the machine at work. ;) I'm really hoping people get over it soon and recognize that if they spend all their time here, it won't hurt them to pay a very tiny fee to help keep the site up and running! Just think of it like public radio!
