Quickest way to make silver powder

Hi all,

I'd like to use silver in a project, and I'd like to know what the best method of making it quickly - I'm not interested in paying $30 to ship it to Australia. Would I get any success by filing a sheet of silver, or is there a better way of doing it? Or can I buy it somewhere locally?

Here's an example of what I'm looking for, I'd like the texture to be fairly course, not the fine powdered stuff I've seen elsewhere.

Cheers!

Filing, grinding or even sraping will work with silver but you have the problem of oxidation.

I would polish a piece of silverware and run it over a belt grinder with littls pressure.

For a bench model put it in a clear plastic bag, so you get in with your hand and close the opening around your arm.

This way you collect even the fine dust and depending on the quality of the silver you should get over a gram per minute.

Be aware that silver will transfer the heat quite good, so use thick gloves, pliers or similar to hold the silver.

Don't use too much pressure as otherwise the silver will overheat and oxidize right away.
