Reading Rainbow comes to the end of its 26-year run on Friday; it has won more than two-dozen Emmys, and is the third longest-running children's show in PBS history ââ¬â€ outlasted only by Sesame Street and Mister Rogers.

im still a kid so i remember watching those episodes at schjool sometimes when the teachers didn't have anything planned. we would always make fun of the people ate the end recomending books. and the host really creeped me out
Man, reading these comments makes me feel old, even though I can remember only the tail end of all those awesome shows. Also I didnt know that reading rainbow was still running up till when I saw this. Its kind of sad that this ended, it was a good show.

I know I'm going to regret this, but: Meh. It wasn't one of my favorite shows. It was wholesome, but I just don't feel for it. That being said, I did have a childhood. And I almost cried when I found out about the passing of Mr. Rogers.
I did cry when Mr. Rogers passed away, and I still do cry when i think of him. I have a very treasured letter he wrote me when I was a young and frightened mother.

I didn't really think about what a PBS child I was until now...Reading Rainbow was another fav! I wasn't quite as crazy about Mr. Rogers (the goody two-shoes! :P), but I watched him a lot anyway.
Of course, when I tell tall tales of only having like 5 *analog* channels, little kids don't believe me. :D

Now that you are older, you might be interested to read about Mr. Roger's training and philosphy. He wasn't about being a "goody two shoes." He understood that many children have basic needs that haven't been addressed in a sensitive and respectful way. For many of us, (both young children and adult children,) he was our only example of good parenting.)
:-) I know...actually, in my old age (:P) I'm actually rather fond of Mr. Rogers - "goody two shoes" is just how I perceived him at the time. :P

My fav PBS show was ZOOM, it was where we could pick up the Boston accent and it was the first DIY show for kids. And PBS is where I learned some cooking skillz from the great Julia Child.
Yep! I loved ZOOM.. And I was a big fan of The Electric Company. Sesame Street was useless (except some of the unbelievable guest musicians) after Mr. Hooper died.
ZOOM was real cool until the most recent cast... it all went downhill when Caroline and Kenny grew up...
I shall miss reading rainbow... one year I was the runner up for my state in the young writers and illustrators contest... Star Trek episode definitely the most epic :D Also convinced me that I wanted to make movies.

I think that's the only episode I've ever seen, used to watch Wishbone, that was a good show, that and Hammy Hamster.

I don't think so. There was another series of educational videos that were big in US schools in the 1990s. I can't remember the name, though. I know we had to watch them in the library a lot. Ahhhhhh, it's going to drive me crazy that I can't remember the name.

I heard about this on NPR the other day. :( Very sad! It was one of my favorites when I was little. I love LeVar! He's so cute!
