Remembrance.

It's that time of year again.

The best / worst part this year was the moment when the family of a local man, recently killed in action, laid a wreath and the whole parade burst into spontaneous applause.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

For Their Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today

Hah, in the States, ours is in May so we aren't too cold to remember.

But then, I suppose remembrance should be had every day. -_-
Sorry, we have two, dude.  Have you forgotten the one coming up in two days?
DUDE!
If we have more than one Memorial Day, then you're forgetting the third one!
Since that doesn't memorialize veterans of the Regular Military who were killed in war, it is not the "third one."
Oh! Were we talking about remembering soldiers who died? Sorry, I was talking about days which are set aside as National Holidays in which we as Americans are urged to "remember."

In a vague way.
Yup.  Vague, and apparently no knowledge of the actual holidays.  Try a bit of research; you might learn something.
Wow, I'm sorry for not having as much knowledge as you. I didn't know it would get you so riled up.
Without speaking for anyone, I don't think it's really about you; I think that after the Rock Soldier debacle, there is a low tolerance for a lack of knowledge in this thread.
It appears the lack of tolerance for my words preceded the "debacle" you speak of, and it also appears to have been caused by a rift between people "in the know" who are unwilling to even toss a hint to those who aren't "in the know," simply because of the existence of Google.

I don't know how my words could have been taken the wrong way, but suddenly I found myself accused of being willfully ignorant (which I am never) and felt like I was being chased by a grizzly bear. You can't argue with them, only appease them. With one of your legs. And even then it might not work. Am I allowed to comment on the social aspect of a holiday without being lambasted?

Please take this argument elsewhere - that was not the intent of this topic.
