Removing the stamp on a bulb

Hi!
Just a really quick question: Is there a way to remove the stamp on the bottom of a light bulb (you know, the bit that says the number of watts and the manufacturer) without damaging the bulb?
Thanks for the reply.

Have you tried warm soapy water and a gentle scouring pad?

I did indeed. It refused to budge :(

Next, try solvents - start with acetone (nail varnish remover), or a drop of WD40.

Turns out it needed some vigorous rubbing with a steel scouring pad, as opposed to the one that comes on the back side of a sponge and after that some detergent, because (for some reason) the letters leave a greasy marks on the back. Thanks for the help :)

I think it varies with the type of bulb some come off easily. Try steel wool.

In the US the Volts & watts are glazed into the top of the glass.
After years they become so very faint that it becomes hard to read..
So I would surmise prolonged heating could help remove the text.
