You usually can go to any drug store and get some. Also, people use it for curing meats, so you could also go to the butchering area of a grocery store and they may be able to tell you where to get some.

Garden centres (stump remover) Otherwise, check the ingredients on the sides of packs of fertiliser. If you're lucky, you'll find nitrate fertilisers with a lot of potassium as well (potassium nitrate is saltpetre). Failing that, ammonium nitrate fertilisers will do nearly as well (I assume you're making gunpowder?)
