Scavenging Smartphone Touchscreens for DIY Projects

Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out how feasible it would be to harvest a touchscreen from an old smart phone (say, a $35 LG on ebay) and integrate it into a DIY electronics project (eg. an Arduino project). Are the connections just hopelessly convoluted inside the phone or do many phones have fairly sensible screens that can be re-used?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

The driver circuitry and addressing is usually proprietary to the device, so even trying to use the guts of a regular full size LCD display panel from a laptop are mostly fruitless. Go get a display from adafruit or sparkfun which are meant to be used with arduinos and you get the source code and stuff. Good luck.
