I have to make a shield to go with my 300 Halloween costume, but I'm not sure what to make it out of. I need a quick, easy and cheap way to make a shield that looks like the one in this picture:

I've made one already...I cut a circle out of thin plywood, and made the lambda out of cardboard. Then I riveted polyester straps on the back to put my arm through...reinforced them with gorilla glue. Cover the front with bondo, sand it down, and spray paint gold. I was planning on making the instructable for it after Halloween, but if you'd like, I could try and make it earlier.

That would be awesome. I might take your plywood idea, just without the Bondo. I could only get my hands on one pint, and I'm using it on the helmet.
I would suggest you do use the adds a realistic feel to the shield, and it's easy to do on the flat it's a lot easier to use on/sand the shield. (You also won't see the wood's grain)

But would one pint work for both the helmet and the shield?

I might also be using it for the arm bracers...
Where are you buying it from? At home depot, they only had one gallon.

Advance Auto Parts. Geez, that must have cost you a fortune! At Advance, it's ten bucks for one pint and 20 bucks for two. That's all the sizes they had there.
The gallon tub cost 27
Yay! So you did plywood afterall. I'm totally stalking you right now because I haven't talked to you in a while and was curious about what you did. :P
Shoot me an IM =]
