Squid Labs Tour with Christy, Corwin, and Eric

Here's an old video I found starring Corwin, Christy and me talking about some of the stuff we did at Squid Labs. It was filmed in 2004 and early 2005 - we don't mention Instructables, because we hadn't started it yet!

Hope you enjoy:

When you're done here, check out this one starring Tim.

I want a harness like that! That looks really fun but also slightly dangerous. A good mix, I'd say. :D
In our gymnastics class, way back in High school, we had a set of "rings" that were run up through pulleys, and you then could concentrate on form, before you had the strength to do the routine. They were great for this kind of thing :-)

That's exactly what I was trying to build. I want to learn to do back flips from the standing position.

These were little more than a set of rings threaded through pulleys high up on the ceiling. You could lift your own weight with the force of your little finger, but you did have to pay attention and not let you arms go upward, or you could find yourself staring down the floor after a much to quick "meeting". The ones in the video appear to be stationary, whereas the rings I spoke of needed to be gripped to hold yourself up. The biggest problem I see with your rig in "training for a back flip" is that it doesn't help one learn form either. On has to jump upward and throw their hands backwards (and with the rig, they could get "hung up"), arch their back, wait to get proper height, and then tuck (and open at the proper time). Depending on the rig, one doesn't really get to do any of those things except, they don't smash their head into the floor, from not obtaining proper height. Not that I am criticizing or anything ;-)

Now that I think about it, the fastest way was when the gymnastics coach would stand beside us, and offer support at the small of the back. This would work without the offending ropes to get in the way, eh?

Truly, to look like Beaker - you MUST have the black tie :p

Science is a Formal Event - requiring a black tie and lab coat :p

Wait, did you guys actually make that car for Citreon?
Did it have anything to do with this ad campaign?

It really got built:

There's some video of it in action floating around.
