Star Trek Funeral

Go out in (some kind of) style in a Star Trek casket / coffin, or have your dust gather dust in a Star Trek urn

Should have been out already, but not yet (via Gadgets for God at Ship of Fools)

Click where it says:

You might have to ask them if they got around to full production.

Listening to David Bowie - Scary Monsters, as I read this, I'm gonna have that coffin :) I'm sure it's only about £350, Think it'll cost a bit more to shoot it into space though.

Ashes to ashes, funk to funky

Where do I know this lyric from? I suspect it's one of those ones that has been copied all over the place (like "hotel, motel, holiday inn").

The urn is pretty cool, but I'm not sure about the coffin given it's unlikely to be actually blasted into space with me in it.

Thank you! (reminds me of The D for some reason...) L

Huh. While the coffin looks okay, it reminds me of a "red-shirt". So I wouldn't want it. The urn, however, I wouldn't mind having as a simple art piece! That looks cool! Now....if only they could do that for the StarGate....
KentsOkay in reply to sgsidekickMay 28, 2009. 7:12 AM
Yah, what a nice way to go, de molecularized in an opening worm hole...

It's solve burial / cremation problems. Just have growing piles of corpses on other worlds... L
sgsidekick in reply to lemonieMay 29, 2009. 8:57 PM
Actually, in one SG ep they DID a sort of cremation! They had the body lying on a structure raised up so when the "backwards flush" occurred, the body was in the way so it was vaporized. No fuss, no muss.

Wouldn't it be easier to just convert the matter into energy using whatever magical process the replicators used? You'd have the ethical issue of whatever comes out of the replicator technically being derived from your crewmembers' flesh, and thus cannibalistic to eat, but no one has issues eating food that is partially nourished by nutrients released into groundwater by decaying cadavers on Earth...

I put way too much thought into that, didn't I?
sgsidekick in reply to CameronSSOct 25, 2009. 8:43 PM
hahahahahaha!  Well, too much thought is sometimes better than not enough...sometimes...*lol*

Since we now bury our dead (for the most part) in cemetaries, there aren't too many grazers used in cemetary upkeep, thus, not a whole lot of our food is actually nurished by nutrients/groundwater/decaying cadavers. Besides, that's a lot of formaldyhide (sp)...  But other things live and die, so the cycle is constantly renewed with or without human involvement.

Replicator technology?  Probably better than cloning...??? *bg*

Meh... Getting your a**'s ashes shot out of a gun isn't what I was looking for. I was thinking more along the lines of this:

Get a better vehicle than Doohan then...

jeff-o in reply to lemonieMay 26, 2009. 6:36 PM
It seems as though the ashes were never meant to be sent into orbit. The payload section where the ashes were carried was designed to fall back to earth and be recovered. But you're right... what's the point of sending your ashes to the edge of space, then parachuting back to earth? Lame.

Ah, had remembered other press coverage which go the wrong idea...

Sue me, hate me, flame me, whatever, but I must confess.....I've never ever ever watched even one single second of Star Trek...
lemonie (author) in reply to CamisadoMay 26, 2009. 10:32 AM
Wow you did well (I suppose). Can't say I've watched that many all the way through... L
Camisado in reply to lemonieMay 27, 2009. 2:43 AM
Not watching many is entirely different from not ever watching a single second of it.
lemonie (author) in reply to CamisadoMay 27, 2009. 10:33 AM
Yes the difference between zero and something is infinite. L
n8man in reply to lemonieMay 27, 2009. 11:19 PM
