Take a Photo, Get a patch! (my new monthly give away)
Some of you may have noticed that I stopped doing my famous 'Desktops of [current month]' Forum topics.
These few days of past, I may have bought myself three cameras, so it prompted me to think.
Thus I bring you my new monthly forum topic, which I hope more people can get involved with than the Desktop wallpaper topics.
Essentially, every month I am going to post a topic with a distinct theme. The task then is for you guys to go out and take a picture along that theme, and post it as a comment.
This months theme is an introductory one -
Go and take a picture of your camera using your camera.
Make the most of reflective surfaces, and interesting techniques. If you own more than one camera I want you to use your favourite, because this is the first topic, think of it as a 'hello, meet my camera'.
You do not have to be in the photo, so you can still take part if your conscious of putting your picture on the webz.
Remember, the best camera is the one you have with you. I know that one of you could easily take an amazing picture with your phone, while someone with a nice Canon 7D could struggle to find a nice shot.

Don't know if this is still open but here is one of me I took of myself at an airport. I think it was Dallas but I don't remember.
Here's a strange image taken of me and reconstructed with (most of) my face removed.
Let me explain...
I work as a MRI researcher. This image is a 3D reconstruction of my head from a structural scan. The MR-image data details the entire volume of my head, not just an outside surface projection.
It is becoming standard to "strip" the facial region data thus preserving anonymity of human subjects. An automated computer program would be the best to perform this. However, it is non-trivial to automate this without loosing parts of the brain (the object we are studying).
So this was a test of the BET tool. In this case, my mouth was not removed, a potential problem. Looks like I needed to shave also.
Thought this would be an interesting tangent to gmjhowe's original request. I find it immensely enjoyable knowing what the back of my eyeballs look like, something I suspect few can attest to!

My wonderful Canon SX1 IS!
Out of all the photos i saw in the comments section none had any form of nature in them (with the exception of the one taken in Tokyo) and so I felt that I had to bridge the gap between nature and technology.
I have owned a S1 IS which still takes pictures almost as good as my new SX1.
My favorite features about the SX1 is the full 1080p HD video and the 580mm/20X zoom.

Was playing around with ideas and this is really the only reflective thing I could get my camera to capture itself in besides a mirror

My Canon 30D and I reflected in the headlight of an antique car. I probably have a dozen cameras counting toys antiques and WebCams but I use my 30D more than all the others combined. .
Nice, thats a good reflection shot. I use my dSLR the most, I have recently bought myself a nice Lomo Lubitel, so looking forward to playing with that also.

Here are two I took a couple years back when I first got my Pentax K100. I love that camera to death. It has taken me to the greatest places, from underneath a football field sized chunk of bridge being slid into place, to high power model rocket launches, to the tops of the Sierras.

On the site we have virtual 'patches' that we give out. Its one of the perks of being pro, pro members get a set number of patches to give out to friends.
However, we also do have various forum topics where we give out loads of patches to who ever comments, or even patches for mini contests like this.

This is my Canon Ixus 70 that is about three years old. When I was practising making 3D models in Blender I made this 3D model of my camera. It's not finished though. I couldn't get the text part of Blender to work to add the writing on the front.
An interesting method, not quite a photo, but you get a patch anywho.
Just this morning I was polishing the aluminum spinner of a Cessna 421C, it would have been perfect...I really should check the forums more often.

You thought about doing it yourself at home? you can get these kits that allows you to develop your negatives, then you can scan them in!
Personally, I pay for my film to be developed only, then scan the films.

That's a good idea, are there any tricks to scanning negatives?
I use my work scanner, its a normal flat bed, most modern scanners can be bought with a little light box in the lid, which shines light through the negatives.
Another option if you have a standard scanner, is to attach a strong very even light source ontop and scan as usual.

PS I am actually planning an making an add on for my DSLR Camera that will allow me to photography negatives.

I'm planning on buying a new mid range camera. That's has a good price/quality ratio.
I don't know which one yet some further investigation needs to be done (I never go out and buy something without first checking prices and reviews ;) )

Well, I would always recommend canon, but the Nikon that Thermoelectric is showing off in these comments is a pretty nice option.
My 4 year old Canon PowerShot A540. A very trusty camera I must say. I dont know how many times I've dropped it, and yet it still works! It isn't even shockproof! Behind me is also a prime view of our living space. You've got the living room/dining room, galley, and 1 of two bedrooms. Can you find instructables robot?
Haha nice, I have a compact digital a bit like that, chucked on concrete and all sorts, even dropped it in water once (thankfully it was off at the time, which I think saved).

Its about 4 years old now, might get a micro4thirds soon.
I bought it in France on a trip with my dad, he left my older cybershot camera on a table and it got stolen, he claims it wasn't his fault.

haha i was going to set up a load of mirrors but the only ones i could find are very securely fastened to the wall, and im supposed to be revising XD

Nice, I like your use of the other camera, in order to take a picture of your camera, with your camera. Very round the way to get a reflection!
Your welcome, and thanks! I wanted something photographic related but that was easy to make on a profile page, as well as being able to add in the month.
(The limp on the bottom of my camera is actually a plate I acquired a few days ago for fitting the camera onto my spotting scope's tripod.)
