Those video/audio advertisements that start automatically

I usually click through when I get one of your update newsletters, but that's going to have to stop. Recently, when I open almost any Instructables page, a video/audio clip starts automatically. This is problematic when I'm at work and the sound blasts through the whole office. Let me know when you've repented the error of your ways; until then, I can't read Instructables from the computer I spend the most time in front of.

I have to agree with OP. Although Joe could have phrased his comment better, I too will no longer browse instructables until these are removed. Having to mute my computer every time I visit instructables is unacceptable.

This was also reported by another user over the weekend. Since the ads are provided by third-party services, not developed in house, it can take time for communication to go back and forth. In the mean time, why do you not have your machine muted at work?

"In the mean time, why do you not have your machine muted at work?"
---------------------

If you're an Instructables employee, then this is pretty presumptuous, in fact arrogant, of you! If you're not an Instructables employee, then my comment isn't directed to you.

There might be many reasons why my sound system isn't muted, but none of them are for you to question! The fact that the advertising space sold to third parties by Instructables isn't under your control is also an unacceptable answer that just angers me more.

My suggestion is that you take comments like this more seriously and crack down on your advertisers.

I am not an Instructables staff member, I am another member of the community, as you are.

You chose to post your question in a public forum, which is directed at the entire Instructables community. If you want to communicate privately with Staff, then you should do so. If you don't like public discussions, then you shouldn't engage in them; you certainly should not abuse other community members when you do engage in them.

The great volume of your contributions to this community certainly warrants the rest of us treating you with respect. It's a pity you don't have the self-esteem or tolerance required to treat others with respect in turn.

My suggestion to you is that if you don't like the services which this community is providing to you for free, then you should delete all of the Instructables which you've published, and all of the forum topics which you've started, and take your anger somewhere else. Since you've already achieved two out of three, you're well on your way.

Ouch, he's bleeding out of every psychological orifice...
Let me rephrase what kelseymh said for our dear readers...

"I AM NOT AN INSTRUCTABLES STAFF MEMBER, I AM ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY, AS YOU ARE.

YOU CHOSE TO POST YOUR QUESTION IN A PUBLIC FORUM, WHICH IS DIRECTED AT THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTABLES COMMUNITY.  IF YOU WANT TO COMMUNICATE PRIVATELY WITH STAFF, THEN YOU SHOULD DO SO. IF YOU DON'T LIKE PUBLIC DISCUSSIONS,THEN YOU SHOULDN'T ENGAGE IN THEM; YOU CERTAINLY SHOULD NOT ABUSE OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHEN YOU DO ENGAGE IN THEM.

THE GREAT VOLUME OF YOU CONTRIBUTIONS TO THIS COMMUNITY CERTAINLY WARRANTS THE REST OF US TREATING YOU WITH RESPECT. IT'S A PITY YOU DON'T HAVE THE SELF-ESTEEM OR TOLERANCE REQUIRED TO TREAT OTHERS WITH RESPECT IN TURN.

MY SUGGESTION TO YOU IS THAT IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SERVICES WHICH THIS COMMUNITY IS PROVIDING TO YOU FOR FREE, THEN YOU SHOULD DELETE ALL OF THE INSTRUCTABLES WHICH YOU'VE PUBLISHED, AND ALL OF THE FORUM TOPICS WHICH YOU'VE STARTED. AND TAKE YOUR ANGER SOMEWHERE ELSE. SINCE YOU'VE ALREADY ACHIEVED TWO OUT OF THREE, YOU'RE WELL ON YOUR WAY."
