Throwie concept

Would it be a good idea to solder one led leg to a battery, and the other to a magnet, the put a tab between the two? Has this been tried before? I want to make a few as "flares" for airsoft. Thank you for your help.

don't solder to batteries(especially button cells!), they go BOOM! i've had it happen to me... i was soldering some wires to a button cell, i heard it releasing pressure, continued soldering, then BOOOM! the blasted thing exploded right in my face, i ran straight to the bathroom and washed out my eyes for about 5 minutes luckily the center piece didn't hit my eyes! You probably should put a tab in between the leg and the battery. Thus, the arrangement would be: Magnet LED Leg Plastic or Paper Tab Battery Other LED Leg

I don't know how visible an LED would be as a flare.

Sounds quite feasible - just don't over-heat the magnet when you solder to it.
