Tidbits of Olympic Proportions

Tetranitrate's Japanese adventures are not the only exciting happenings in the region: on Friday (08/08/08), the 2008 Summer Olympics began in Beijing, China.

Despite concerns about air quality for the games and preparations, these games showcase some very cool designs, cultural aspects, and other miscellany that we would otherwise not have seen.

The two featured buildings to check out are the National Aquatics Center and the National Stadium, more commonly referred to as the Water Cube and the Bird's Nest. They are very interesting buildings, and architecturally stunning as well.

For the bike enthusiasts out there, Make Magazine posted this album of bicycles in Beijing.

And some digital enhancement: China apparently wasn't happy with the fireworks display, so they added some CGI fireworks for television viewers. Link via Boing Boing Gadgets.

And, I just got this from Kim Komando this morning:

Olympic gold

Yay! The 2008 summer Olympics start today! But most of us will not be traveling to Beijing to see live events.

That doesn't mean you have to miss out on the fun. This year, you'll find plenty of Olympic gold online.

NBC has a massive site dedicated to the Olympics. You can watch videos and view pictures of the athletes.

You can also take polls, read feature stories and learn about those competing. And let's not forget the games! They're lots of fun.

You'll also find bonuses you wouldn't expect. For example, you can get alerts sent to your phone. Or, watch video on your cell phone!

YEAH! that's what I want to do, watch the Olympics ON MY PHONE LOL. *shakes head*
OOOOOPS !!! forgot the link :-) Here is the link
