Total Views Tracker - 16/12/2010

Here's this week's stack of total views.

Congratulations to Canida, who passed 4 MILLION views this week and to Zieak who reached 1 million!

I finally fixed the bug that meant new members that were on the second page of the membership page didn't get included in the count, so those who were left out before should see a gain starting from when I run it next week.

And lastly, and explanation of what this forum topic is about, since it caused some confusion last week, I hadn't been including a link and description since I figured everyone already knew what it was....

This forum topic is a printout of the results of a Perl script I run weekly. To be included in it, join this  group. The Perl script visits the profile page of each member of the group and extracts their Total Views then saves them to a file that can be opened by me in Excel. I then post the last 3 columns so everyone can compare their weekly gain with their friends. While you can easily see this data for you on the You page, this script allows people to compare their success/gain with their friends. I hand out patches as achievements when members of the group reach 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k and 1m views.

Oooo Killerjackalope beat gmjhowe by 21 views gain this week :p
So very tight, though that doesn't include my latest 'ible I think, judging by timeline, it was in the filters all day...
I have not posted any new instructables for weeks..
gmjhowe gmjhowe3 years ago
Infact, since Oct 14th (my latest ible) KJL has posted 5 extra ibles.

I am just waiting my time till I write up some of my projects..
Aye, everything's been little things that I've put together lately, need some proper projects up, but I can't find lasers... What happened to lasers this month, I saw green ones all over the place, my suspicion is that a pound shop had them...

Also going in to shops and asking for lasers makes you look like a crazy person, especially when you explain you need a bunch of them and tack on "it's for a project"

/Rant
Don't say I never help you.

They have a wide range of lasers. Its where I got my green laser from, I used it to make a laser microscope the other day! I was going to make an Ible, but its been done and repeated several times on makezine, so not sure its worth me posting.

THOU SHALT POST!

Not everybody reads Makezine, you know...
gmjhowe Kiteman3 years ago
I already have a massive back log of projects. MASSIVE. I have at least 6 completed, just awaiting write up. bout 15 started, awaiting completion. Ideas and initial projects numbering 20.
Still have 58 unpublished, got loads needing finished, even old burning questions nobody answered... at this rate its a competitive to do list...
Cheers, however too pricey for these projects, but I still wanna go green rather than red... Eh I'll check out DX, was hoping to find a cheapo shop with them by now, a lot of them are becoming more technologically advanced, or chinese warehouses...
Haha, if you pay anything less than about £30 you are just going to get a red laser bodged to look green.

I highly recommend that one I bought.
They'd be OK for one of the projects, a true green one is necessary for one of the projects...

I'll stick that in favourites and get one later though, is the disco bit easy to remove?

Lasers and I have a history of destroying one another...
Its just like an extra screw on attachment. very easy to put on and off.
Sweet, that'd actually be a handy way of mounting the laser too... Ah now I'm getting all excited for my projects...
Boohoo :D I lost my count because I changed my name :p *was reukpower

Sweet! But I'd better get posting some more Instructables - scooch is gaining fast.

I like all the little contests between people that are forming.
zieak3 years ago
Woot! If Instructables keeps the contests coming like they have for the past few months I think I can hit 2 million by the end of 2011!
canida zieak3 years ago
Part of the trick is posting projects that will get search traffic - then your old projects really keep cranking the numbers for you. For example, I get a ton of people looking at my playdough Instructable every day, while nobody really searches for bad mouse taxidermy. ;)

We'll try to get some more excellent contests lined up - it would be hard to keep up the current pace, though!
Jayefuu (author)  canida3 years ago
Amen to that. Though I need more Instructables that get traffic year round, not just when tomatoes are ripening :D
Sigh, I keep slipping.
Me too. Third down to fourth...

:-)

Yay, I beat kelseymh! :-P It'll take a while to get to 50,000 though.

I find the fact that I published what I consider to be my best knex project of all time this time around and yet my gain is slipping to be very ironic- It was over 900 last time and the time before that it was over 1600.
Jayefuu (author)  DJ Radio3 years ago
Perhaps it has more to do with site-wide traffic. If the WHOLE site only got 5 million hits this week, but last week it got 10, then your views will suffer as a result. (I made those numbers up to make a point)
