Transparent LCD's

Do all digital picture frames (eg http://www.edgetechcorp.com/accessories/digital-picture-frame.asp) have transparent LCD's? Like if you take it apart, could the LCD still work but it is transparent? So you could turn it into a projector with a very powerful light?
Thanks!

So, I tried removing the backlight and reflective layer in a 7 inch LCD a few days ago. The screen doesn't get too transparent when this is done. I'd say, it is only about 25%-30% transparent. The contrast becomes very bad. And unless it is placed in front of a window (during the daytime) or any other light source,  nothing much shows up really.

I want to try this also for an experiment, can you tell me what the product / model # was of the item? Thanks--
I used a random Chinese 7" digital photo-frame LCD(don't bother about that). The idea is to get a transparent LCD. IF you want to make a projector out of this, you'll need something known as a Fresnel Lens, and a powerful lightsource. Then you will need other focusing lenses to get an image.

If it's backlit (does it emit light?), then the LCD won't have a reflective backing--so yes, in that case, it will be transparent.

Whether or not you can separate it from the backlighting assembly without trashing it is another question...
Usually the backlighting isn't too hard to remove, some people have even had success removing reflective backings... *wonders aboutt he 19inch monitor in front of him and the giant spotlight in the final planning processes, I'm a project images of 'ibles on clouds...

I once removed the backing from a defunct char LCD, just to see. It worked, but it would have been difficult reassembling it.

It was nothing like these larger backlit displays, tho...
Hmm anything already transparent should be a good bet, I'm still interested in the idea of using an LCD monitor, with a monstrous backlight and a couple of lense assemblies... Mainly because if so it could tie in rather well with my own project...
Well, now I'm curious...
You'll see soon enough, got some hard to get materials to get...
