UK Fuel Price Petition

When I bought my Mini, I could not squeeze £20 into the tank.  Now a re-fill costs me £28-£30.

There is a petition waiting to be signed by at least 100,000 people in an effort to lower fuel prices.

It currently has 88,000+ signatures.

I've signed and ask you to sign to get this subject debated in parliament and hopefully get fuel prices down, the prices won't come down unless we try, and try hard to get the debate going.

Please sign it now at this link.

News: since posting this topic, the number of signatures has risen by over a thousand.

(Sorry, non-UK members, this is a UK-only petition, but if you know any Brits with a vested interest in fuel prices (ie, all of them), then please pass this on to them.)

Thank you!
You have too much faith in democracy. :P

This is democracy in action - if the petition reaches 100,000 signatures, the government is required to discuss the proposal in the Commons.
When I first read the topic I thought 100,000 was pretty useless, but that's cool that in the UK it actually does something.

I got gas for $3.35/gallon yesterday and that's the lowest I've seen it in over a year. Better get off my butt and start working on that biodiesel rig.
.  But are they required to actually _do_ anything?
.  I wish you luck, but believe that the Gobmint is going to be impotent against the market. If you pay less for gas, you'll have to pay more for something else.
I love that people in the UK actually get a petition going, while people in the US only post on facebook and have "no gas" days.

Which are pointless because every person that didn't buy gas one day will just have to run out the next because their SUV drinks it all up. :P

There was a move to persuade folk to only buy from local, small-company garages, but there are too few around the country to make a difference.

So what are you paying for fuel these days?
At the moment here the price bounces around between about $1.20 and $1.40AU a litre, depending on when and where you buy it. That would work out at about $4.90 a gallon or 85p a litre (if I've done my calculations right)

The petrol station down the road is currently charging £1.319 per litre. Some are over £1.40, and diesel is more than that.
