USB Smart Button - change destination URL

I received a promotional USB Smart Button. I think it would be cool to change the programmed URL that it goes to when you press the button. A second idea would be to add a longer sequence of commands than just opening a web browser to a specific page. Anyone?

Here is some info on the USB Smart Button... one site of many on a Google search.

Here is a YouTube video of it in action.

I have written replacement firmware for the USB Smart Buttons that use the Cypress CY7C63803 Micro Controller. You can read about it on My Blog and download the replacement firmware for free.

It is a momentary switch. You can change out the board and put one of these in: http://www.pjrc.com/store/teensy.html You can then use an Arduino sketch to program it.

The guy at http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1312818 mentions a black blob and eeprom chip but the one I got has no black blob only a CY7C63803 so it won't be so easy to just reprogram the serial flash.

From a company that makes them, the chip inside can be re-flashed to a different site, but only at the company. Might require disassembly to get at the chip as it's not something done thru the USB connection. Someone else asked about it, they were told all it does is pass keystrokes, using a macro, like: Windows button - r - address - enter. If that's the case, maybe you could gut it and put in your own device, or make one period. No idea offhand how you'd do that.

Although it would be cool to have a USB "speed dialer" where you just hit one of several programmed buttons to go right to your favorite sites.

. It's possible the URL is stored in the Registry. Find it and change it to what you want. . If the URL is hard-coded you may be able to use an editor to change it, but the new URL will probably have to be as long or shorter than the old one.
