Uploaded image is not rotated

I uploaded several photos for my Instructable (https://www.instructables.com/id/Game-board-for-Settlers-of-Catan/). All were taken with my iPhone. One is in portrait mode. When I preview the photo with Irfanview on my PC it is correctly oriented. When I view the photo on Instructables it is rotated 90 degrees to the left.

I infer that the iPhone puts some kind of rotation command in the file. Irfanview correctly handles this while the Instructables site does not.

Cheers,
Jim Schrempp

Though solved it something both my phone and DSLR do - in image viewer my photos are not rotated correctly, however PS and some other programs will orient them the way they're meant to be.

I always put my images through photoshop anyway, since I like to fiddle with tones and because the jpeg produced is at least 2mb from either and a good jpeg save, say quality at 8 is much smaller, handy for big batches of uploads, massive difference in time when you've an album from a gig or all the images for an instructable to put up.

As a rule, the basic image viewer in windows or the thumbnail is a good judge to go by, it's never too clever...

Look at a thumbnail of the photo on your PC, using your normal "My Documents" file-views.

Note which way the photo is oriented in the thumbnail - that is the way it will be uploaded to the site.

In this case, you need to right-click on the thumbnail, and click "rotate clockwise". When the image has finished rotating (only a couple of seconds), re-upload the image to the site, and all will be well.
