Variable Speed on a DC motor
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can slow down the roatational speed of a 14.4V DC motor?
Its come out of a cordless drill and I have another project to put it to use but it rotates too fast at the moment.
I have 2 options:
1) Use a variable resistor to slow down the speed
2) Use a gearing system
In an ideal world I would prefer to use the variable resistor, as then I could change the speed of the motor quickly and effortlessly.
Mechanical circuits are not my best skill and Ive already burnt out a cheap potentiometer (presumably too much current?) so I need to think more inteligently about what the design should be rather than just bolting components on the side of it.
If anyone has any ideas please feel free, im open to all suggestions at the moment.
