Virus on 'ible Home-made-lava-lamp-%5bupdated-for-the-last-time%5d/ ???
I was clicking through "next step"s on this 'ible and got a persistent popup insisting I had a virus on my computer. I know this scam is to actually put one ON my puter, so I kept trying to cancel out of it. It took me to a site that was "scanning" and I unplugged my net cable before anything could download, shut down, and rebooted only to do a full Norton scan. I think I avoided harm, but please look into this!

That sounds a LOT like spyware (or crapware, or malware) and should be looked into immediately. I just went there (I hope it was the same one) and saw nothing like that, which means your computer has something triggering the ad to pop up, or come through.

*sigh* Back to Geek Squad I go... I just had a run in with a Trojan on my last lappy... They cleaned 29 viruses off, so I switched from McAffee to Norton, which runs scans every hour or so. (Gets real annoying when I can't see the HP in the same spot the reminder pops up...) That's why the panic response to this one. I'll have my tech (husband) look at this one too. Thanks!
Do you tend to open unsolicited e-mails to find out what they are?

I just had a look (link to the one I checked), it seems fine to me.
Yeah, sorry I meant it looks like the person has a problem "on their own machine" as opposed to it comeing from Instructables.
Might be over enthusiasm w/ref advertising / cookies?
I've not know of any genuine problem here. Last time anyone mentioned the like, some computer guys said "it was Instructables" and took the machine away, selling a replacement at the same time I believe...
