What is a Guide?

When I accessed Instructables this morning, I saw a new tab on the Explore page, "guides".

When I select the link, only one thing shows up -- something about LEDs from Randy. It looks like these are meant to separate out collections of I'bles from Groups/Forums.

Are they "staff only"? Or in beta? The Submit page doesn't have a way to create a Guide (yet?).

DJ radio posted a lego one, so it probably isn't staff only unless he is newly appointed...

It looks like the guides are staff only, you just see the same names pop up over and over again.

Yeah, that was my deduction as well. I was sort of hoping one of TPTB might confirm it "officially," or make a statement that it was in testing and would be released more broadly (like Featuring).
. Did Robot ever make a formal statement? I made a quick search of the site and didn't see anything official. . I was doing some investigating about Guides skewing contest voting and can't find anything saying what a Guide is supposed to be. A Best-Of list? A more or less comprehensive list? An attempt at mind control (I sure wish I hadn't followed Kiteman's David Icke link earlier today heehee)?

It looks like it is probably going to stay staff only because they are lists of other people's instructables. It may be extended though to those with feature powers.

They're new - I was going to start a thread about them, but remembered to search to see if anybody else had. As long as they're put together properly (and the one's I've looked at are), then they're going to be a useful resource. My only gripe is that they could be longer, and my only concern is whether they will be updated often enough to remain relevant.

And one of my projects is featured!
I was going to post about them, I think it's an awesome idea. One common refrain I hear again and again is "I don't know what to build". This is awesome.
